ABOUT THE ROLE

Job Purpose


Use your social science data skills in a real world not-for profit environment to make an impact on the ground.

We seek to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of poverty, in order to increase the effectiveness of our work.

The Database Administrator at Bissell Centre plays a crucial role in managing and analyzing data to support the organization's programs and services.

This position involves overseeing the database of various programs, creating insightful reports, and effectively communicating data findings. The Database Administrator also conducts data audits, implements validation protocols, and ensures data quality.


Duties and Responsibilities

Database Management:

  • Manage the database of various programs offered at the Bissell Centre.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and security within the database.

Metrics Tracking and Dashboard Management:

  • Build and manage dashboards to track goalbased metrics for programs.
  • Develop visual representations of data using charts and graphs.

Report Creation and Stakeholder Communication:

  • Create and edit reports that effectively meet the needs of stakeholders.

Data Audits and Validation:

  • Conduct regular data audits to identify and correct errors or inconsistencies.
  • Monitor data quality and provide recommendations for improvements.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Generate routine and adhoc reports, ensuring data accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare visualizations, charts, and graphs to effectively communicate data findings.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand data needs and requirements.
  • Work closely with program managers and staff to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Provide training and support to staff on data entry and management processes.

Data Management Strategies:

  • Assist in developing and implementing data management strategies and best practices.
  • Recommend and implement initiatives to improve data quality.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to data management.
  • Provide support for Analysis & Evaluation projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • In progress Post-Secondary
  • Minimum of oneyear employment experience
  • Experience working with database management, analysis and reporting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with issues of poverty, houselessness and Edmonton's urban core is an asset
  • Proven critical thinking abilities
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality and security of sensitive data
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with crossfunctional teams
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
