We operate the non-medical cannabis and beverage alcohol wholesale distribution within the province, as well as the household retail brands of BC Cannabis Stores and BC Liquor Stores.

Business Area Description

The LDB has been assigned to distribute, wholesale, and sell non-medicinal cannabis inclusive of a government owned online channel with a mandate to support government's key priorities of protecting public health and safety, promoting social responsibility, and eliminating the illicit market.

Since 2018, the BC Cannabis Stores chain has grown to 39 locations across the province, providing an educational, safe, and socially responsible outlet for the BC public to engage with non-medical cannabis products.

We distribute cannabis to all licensed retail locations across BC and work with licensed producers across Canada to provide a wide product assortment that is centrally distributed.

Cannabis operations within the BCLDB includes the Distribution, Merchandising, Retail Operations, Supply Chain, and Marketing departments

Job Overview

The Store Manager, under the general supervision of the Regional Manager, is responsible for the management of a major retail operation, by providing leadership and direction, controlling costs and maximizing revenue through the achievement of sales targets.

Responsibilities include providing excellent customer service and education to the public.


The Manager is responsible for developing and implementing operational plans, developing annual store budgets, controlling employment costs, and analyzing reports.

The Manager is expected to contribute to establish and improve the
Cannabis Store image through the implementation and maintenance of policies.

The Manager is responsible for the hiring, training and development of staff, scheduling assignments, participating as required in all store duties as well as handling labour relations issues for the work unit.

Position Description
Accountabilities

  • Manages a multishift Cannabis Retail Store operation with regular and auxiliary staff.
  • Drives highest level of social responsibility in a consumercentric way.
  • Contributes to the department's overall sales targets from a store and online perspective.
  • Ensures a relevant instore experience through feedback to management on physical layout, instore signage, processes and instore digital experience.
  • Reviews and analyzes all aspects of the stores operation and manages improvements where required.
  • Provides guidance and direction to staff to implement improvements. Communicates and applies LDB policies, procedures and regulations; recommends changes to LDB policy and implements changes of procedures.
  • Reviews, provides input and monitors the store budget and costs, examines variances, and implements appropriate courses of action. Financially responsible for assisting the Store Manager with all aspects of store, including operating budget.
  • Applies the various acts (Cannabis Act and their respective regulations), Master and Component Collective
Agreements.

  • Administers contracts with private companies related to store maintenance (landscaping, janitorial, plumbing, waste removal).
  • Maximizes revenue through merchandising and customer relations. Guides staff in improving merchandising techniques. Implements displays and/or programs, fixture and layout changes.
