Inactive Well Planning Coordinator

The Opportunity:


Do you have a keen desire to learn and contribute to a high performing team, where initiative and being a team player is highly valued? As an Inactive Well Planning Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to contribute to inactive well and liability management projects in Western Canada with optimal effectiveness.

You will advance your technical skills, interface with corporate and field personnel, and gain exposure to all elements of the inactive well and liability management programs.

This position provides an opportunity to collaborate with the Operations, Environment, Surface Land, Mineral Land and Production groups.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Manage Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Abandonment Orders due to defunct partners
  • Manage mineral expiry notifications
  • Assist in preparing quarterly and annual Asset Retirement Obligation (ARO) reports
  • Assist with annual budget preparation
  • Work with the Asset Retirement teams to prepare and submit mandatory spend in Alberta and Saskatchewan
  • Classify inactive wells as per provincial regulations (AER Directive 13/BCER Chapter 9)
  • Assist with data analytics and reporting as required
  • Other special projects as required

  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 5 x 2, Monday to Friday, 8hours shifts
  • Eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural's relocation policy

Skills & Qualifications:


  • Minimum 5 years of oil & gas industry experience in a related field
  • Relevant postsecondary education is an asset, but not required
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AccuMap, WellView, and other database programs is an asset
  • Strong understanding of AER Directive 13, AER Directive 88, MER Financial Security and Site Closure Regulations, BCER Dormancy and Shut Down Regulations and mineral land rights would be advantageous
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with accuracy and attention to detail are a must
