The Population and Public Health (PPH) Division focuses on improving people's overall health and well-being by promoting health; preventing disease, disability, and injury; protecting people from harm; and ensuring particular focus on key groups including Indigenous peoples, women and children.
The intent of these actions is to promote a healthier population and reduce current and future demands on the health care system.
PPH business areas fulfill their work through stewardship, including planning, directing and evaluating programs, policies, and legislation; providing leadership and expert advice based on evidence and best practices; and by building relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
The Healthy Living and Health Promotion Branch works to reduce the incidence of preventable chronic disease and injury by addressing risk factors and supporting health-promoting environments that enable British Columbians to make healthy lifestyle choices.

As a key element of an overall strategy to improve population health, the branch supports clinical prevention across the life course.
The branch also supports population health promotion strategies in settings, including schools, local communities and in the workplace.To support this work, the branch also incorporates social marketing, and provides governance and procurement oversight over contracts and/or grants with non-government organizations and others.
This position is responsible for providing leadership, expert advice, best practices, policy development, performance measurement and monitoring related to health promotion programs in community and school-linked settings.
This involves enhancing the capacity of health authorities, local government and agencies within the public health, education and other systems to work together to promote and maintain health behaviours throughout the lifespan.
It also includes stimulating inter-sectoral action across all levels of government, reporting against health goals and targets, identifying common risk factor trends and activities and aligning efforts at all levels in a manner that is respectful of federal, provincial, local and sectoral mandates.
The position develops strategic approaches to building capacity and infrastructure for the longer term through the provision of technical expertise, standards, research and surveillance and monitoring of all aspects of health promotion and specific risk identification.

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as Public Health, Health Promotion, Planning, Political Science, Public Administration.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in planning, developing, implementing, analyzing, and evaluating healthy policies and programs.
- Experience in project management, contract and budget management, including negotiating funding agreements or contracts.
- Experience working effectively with peers, professional groups, government and nongovernment agencies.
- Experience providing authoritative advice, guidance and recommendations on technical direction to senior management and staff to support strategic business initiatives.
