Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Location Supervisor(s), the Direct Support Worker is responsible for providing individualized support to clients and support to the desired Day Program and providing regular access to the community for people receiving services.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Serve as a positive role model for staff and clients.
- Provide individual emotional, physical, social and vocational support to clients in a respectful and caring manner.
- Provide support to each client in personal care and household skills.
- Promote independence and encourage decisionmaking through recognition and respect of each client's interest and choices.
- Perform administrative duties including completing communication books/logs, reports and maintaining appropriate lines of communication with management and staff.
- Maintain effective communication with the Program Manager, Location Supervisor, coworkers, clients.
- Work with various clients at their designated Day Program.
- Be open to relocation to another Day Program within DASCH as required.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Must be willing and able to work at various Day Programs and comfortable with all types of clients.
- Supporting individuals in the shallow end of the water is required for this position.
- Comfortable driving a largerthanaverage vehicle is required for this position.
- Prior experience in a Day Program considered an asset.
- Grade 10 education
or Level 6 on the Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment. - Full (5F) or Intermediate (5I) Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License is required.
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Certificate in Disability and Community Support is an asset.
- Sound knowledge of intellectual disabilities is an asset.
