Summary of Responsibilities


Estimators are responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that we know everything required to successfully bid and win a project.

Estimators must aggressively follow-up with vendor and or subcontractors to ensure that bids are received. Estimators also work with Sales Management to follow-up on bids and budgets to close successful profitable work.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Bid Administration:

  • Prepares and maintains status of plan and spec reproduction
  • Solicits and maintains communication with vendors and subcontractors
  • Prepares vendor and subcontractor bid packages
  • Quantity take offs of project specific products inclusive of labour and equipment forecasts for labour production.
  • Entry and estimating cost program for current tenders
  • Transmit addenda and other bid information to vendor and subcontractors
  • Ensures that we have the proper coverage from vendors and subcontractors on bid day
  • Shows creativity and resourcefulness to gain better pricing from vendors and subcontractors
  • Submits 100% of bids and budgets by the bid deadline no exceptions
  • Enters all relevant information into excel estimating template

Project Knowledge:

  • Review bid requirements thoroughly and asks followup question on every bid
  • Has a thorough understanding of the scope
  • Develops RFI's and clarifications
  • Performs a comprehensive "bid day" analysis
  • Minimize exclusions by "doing our homework"
  • Include valueengineering ideas
  • Follow up & assistance in Closing revision to costing and scope of work
  • Project turnover with Salesperson to Project Management department.

General requirements for this Estimating position

  • 5 years of experience in a similar Estimating role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Post secondary education in architecture design or drafting technology background, or equivalent work experience considered an asset.
  • Experience as architectural technologist for the development of the architectural design drawing
  • Blueprint reading ability is a must.
  • Must know Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Thorough knowledge of quoting methods and procedures
  • Must be selfmotivated & punctual.
  • Exhibits strong leadership and sound decision making qualities
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and have excellent follow up skills both internally and externally.
  • Deals effectively and cooperatively with established policies and procedures
  • Must be professional and polished in appearance and speech.

$65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
