CHIEF, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE:


The Design and Construction Branch is looking for a Chief, Landscape Architecture for a temporary position until March 31, 2027, with the possibility of extension and/or indeterminate status.

The position is classified as a RÉ-07 ($105,786 to $136,312 per annum; 2021 rate of pay under review).


JOB OVERVIEW

Join the NCC's landscape architecture team and contribute to designing visually appealing functional spaces of cultural significance in the Capital of Canada.

Be part of the team that ensures that Ottawa and its surroundings present a dignified character and identity to the world.


Reporting to the Director Centre of Expertise, you will plan, direct, and manage the professional landscape architecture services at the NCC to facilitate the preservation and rehabilitation of existing assets and construction of new ones.

You will partner with federal, provincial, and municipal government departments to lead multi-million-dollar projects that will design, build, and maintain NCC assets such as the Lac Philippe Campground, Kiweki Point rehabilitation, Westboro Beach Landscapes.

You will give strategic direction in the planning and execution of these projects in alignment with the NCC's vision and mandate.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with a specialization in Landscape Architecture or another related field.


EXPERIENCE
A minimum of eight years of experience with increasing responsibilities in the field of landscape architecture, including- implementing work plans and managing design services;
- providing technical and professional advice;
- supervising and leading groups of professionals for the delivery of various projects.


KNOWLEDGE

  • Of principles of landscape architecture, site analysis, site selection and sustainable practices.
  • Of principles and procedures of project management and contract management.

ABILITIES

  • To review plans, specifications, budgets and cost estimates.
  • To negotiate and manage contracts and procurement processes.
  • To consult, advise and deliver effective presentations to various audiences.

ASSETS

  • Project Management Professional Certification or other professional certification.
  • Knowledge of universal accessibility and sustainable design practices.
  • Membership of the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects or the Association des Architectes paysagistes du Québec.
  • A master's degree in landscape architecture.
  • Prior experience managing landscape and construction projects on federal lands.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Occasionally required to visit construction sites to review progress of work.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
  • Linguistic profile: Bilingual CBC.
  • Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
  • The National Capital Commission offers a hybrid and flexible work environment, all employees are currently asked to work onsite at least two (2) days per week.
