Primary Purpose


Reporting to the Director, Institutional Accountability, the Research Analyst creates interactive data dashboards to analyze institutional data at University Canada West, and ensures that results are appropriately distributed to stakeholders and integrated in decision-making.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analysis in support of a variety of analytic solutions. Interpret data, analyze results, and provide insights to determine operational impact, trends, and opportunities.
  • Clean, transform, analyze, and visualize institutional data using business intelligence tools (e.g., PowerBI) and other data processing tools (e.g., Excel).
  • Create and maintain interactive data dashboards with insightful data visuals, comprehensive and accurate documentation of data sources, and important data notes for interpreting findings.
  • Coordinate with internal team members to obtain institutional data (e.g., survey data, population data, and benchmarking data).
  • Coordinate with internal team members to maintain documentation of data sources and methodological decisions, including the logic/reasoning for the choices made about the research approach taken. Consult with the client(s) to identify needs and specific requirements to develop valuable data visuals in the interactive data dashboards and provide adhoc data extracts.
  • Maintain access control and provide training and support to client(s) in using the interactive data dashboards.
  • Assist the internal team in the preparation of reports and graphics for research, reporting, and accountability purposes.
  • Validate the quality and integrity of the data.
  • Track and solve problems due to data irregularities.
  • Provide reporting solutions and respond to adhoc report requests across multiple business areas.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and support to other team members and colleagues in other UCW departments.

Position Requirements

Competencies:


  • Demonstrated ability in using the Microsoft Office Suite, including an intermediate or advanced knowledge of Excel (i.e., pivot tables, formulas, etc.).
  • Strong background in data management, database design, data analytics, data visualization, and data governance.
  • Welldeveloped verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to relay data issues in an organized and easily understandable manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customerservice orientation, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fastpaced environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with a keen orientation to detail and concern for accuracy, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in a social sciencerelated field or with coursework in statistics or quantitative research methods preferred.
  • 1+ year of experience in creating data dashboards using business intelligence tools (e.g., PowerBI), acquired through direct work experience.
