Position Overview
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

Join a lively, productive, and growing virology laboratory; collaborate with a pan-Canadian network of scientists working on exciting questions in pandemic research; learn cutting-edge synthetic virology techniques using two different viruses and gain experience in our recently refurbished Containment Level 3 facility The Corcoran lab is seeking a motivated and hard-working virology technician for Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
- funded research on SARS-CoV-2 and Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV). The virology technician will contribute to different projects which require the creation and analyses of SARS-CoV-2 and KSHV recombinant viruses.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Ongoing SARS-CoV-2/KSHV virus production and purification
  • Develop new recombinant viruses using the SARS-CoV2 or KSHV bacmids using established protocols
  • Optimal method development for SARS-CoV2/KSHV quantification using infectious tiering methods and genome copy number quantification by RTqPCR/qPCR
  • Optimal method development for SARS-CoV2/KSHV infection of diverse cell types and determination of infectivity
  • Work collaboratively with other researchers or team members to achieve shared goals
  • Develop improved quality control and assurance tests for SARS-CoV2/KSHV production, purification and infectivity assays
  • Analyze experimental data
  • Present research at lab meetings
  • Contribute to data assembly for writing of scientific manuscripts and grants

Qualifications / Requirements:


  • An M.Sc. degree in wetlab molecular virology
  • Minimum 2 years of related research experience training in wetlab molecular virology beyond graduate school
  • Experience in molecular virology; molecular and cellular biology; cloning; virus sequencing and analysis; reverse genetics and recombinant viral rescue; virus purification and titering; and goodlaboratory practices
  • Detail oriented, organized, and strong written communication skills, as evidenced by a record of publication and scholarship
  • Basic understanding of statistical packages for data analysis, interrogation and interpretation
  • Proven ability to work in a team setting, as evidenced by a track record of collaborative publication
