Achchana Nadarajah

My name is Achchana Nadarajah and I am a Registered Nurse. I was born and raised in Canada. I am fluent in English, but I am definitely willing to learn Portuguese to care for my Portuguese-speaking clients. I have been practicing as a nurse for nearly 6 years in the woman and child program. I currently work in Ontario, Canada at the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. 

Nursing is my passion and I have been dedicated to providing consistently high standards of holistic and culturally competent care for over five years. As a Registered Nurse, I bring extensive knowledge and experience in the fields of maternity, pediatric, and perioperative care to my role as a Postpartum and Labor & Delivery Nurse. I take on the responsibility of caring for and supporting laboring women and their families, moms, and babies during their postpartum transition, breastfeeding, and supplemental feeding support, as well as postpartum and newborn health teaching. 

I also have a range of experience in caring for the pediatric population and providing educational workshops to families regarding health/nutrition, vaccinations, and how to care for their little ones with illnesses like asthma, infections, diabetes, behavioral development, etc. I am deeply focused on identifying and treating illnesses and passionate about educating the young ones and their parents on proper healthcare lifestyles and habits. 

My nursing career has always stemmed from this field and I would not change it for anything else. I am very passionate about what I do and I would love to take my career to the next step by expanding my services and knowledge internationally.

I attribute my passion for caring for pregnant/postpartum women and babies/ children to my deep appreciation for human connection. I take immense joy in supporting, coaching, guiding, and educating my patients during this vulnerable and precious time. Watching parents and families bond with their little ones is truly rewarding and most surely inspiring to continue cultivating my professional excellence in nursing. 

I hold an Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences from Western University, an Honors Nursing Diploma from Durham College, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from Ontario Tech University. 

I have collaborated with local Ontario prenatal/postnatal clinics and have created workshop-related content for clients. I have a range of workshops created in English ranging from newborn care to postpartum care.

When I am not taking care of patients, I love to get creative with cooking, crafting, and creating my own essential oils. Hiking is also a great way for me to unwind and reconnect with nature. I’m also a self-professed café enthusiast, constantly seeking out new spots to enjoy a warm cup of chai with family and friends. On top of this, traveling and volunteering in medical missions have been an integral part of my life since I was a high school student. 

I have visited Portugal twice in less than 5 months this year and I absolutely fell in love with the country which made me want to choose Portugal as my international destination to expand my nursing career. The rich history and culture, the ever-soothing language, the wonderful people, and the amazing beaches and monuments have struck me. And of course, I cannot forget the gorgeous weather because nobody wants to live in -30 degree Celsius cold winter weather in Canada.
