Adam Chehouri

Adam Chehouri is a Senior Wind Turbine Engineer with the Wind Technology group at DNV. Adam brings over 7 years of experience in the wind industry, with a current focus on North American onshore wind due diligence undertaking: 
- independent turbine technology risk assessment (SGRE, GE, Vestas, Nordex Acciona, Enercon and others), with a focus on Siemens Gamesa technology
- construction monitoring services in North America, which includes QA/QC review, site visit and turbine risk assessment during construction
- operational turbine condition, downtime, issues and outlook review for M&A portfolio acquisitions
- turbine reliability analysis and Opex cost projections 
- wind turbine blade technology

His responsibilities also include independent wind turbine blade failure investigation, failure mechanism, and blade damage assessment. As of July 2022, Adam has successfully provided engineering services to over 23 GW of onshore wind projects in North America, including +20 Merger & Acquisition portfolio projects, construction monitoring of +6 GW, turbine technology risk assessment of +9 GW, site suitability analysis of +4 GW, site visit inspections of +40 sites across North America, and supported +40 blade damage investigations and/or failure investigations.

Prior to joining DNV, Adam held the role of junior engineer with the Renewable Power team at Hatch Ltd., where he led efforts to monitor, analyze and improve wind turbine performance, SCADA data analysis for failure detection of wind turbines, and supported pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for commercial-scale wind and hybrid projects in North America.

Adam is a Professional Engineer and a registered member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (License No. 5095279). He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, where he completed his doctoral research on the optimization of wind turbine blades using computational intelligence. Adam has published several publications in the fields of wind turbine optimization and computational intelligence techniques.

Beyond work, Adam is passionate about general aviation, playing basketball and enjoys spending time with his family.

Current focus on North American onshore wind due diligence undertaking: turbine technology risk assessment, independent turbine technology review, construction monitoring, operational wind performance analysis (reliability & O&M cost projection). His responsibilities also include independent wind turbine blade failure investigation, failure mechanism, and blade damage assessment.
As of December 2021, Adam has successfully provided engineering services to over 22 GW of onshore wind projects in North America, including +15 Merger & Acquisition portfolio projects, construction monitoring of +5.5 GW, turbine technology risk assessment of +8.5 GW, site suitability analysis of +3.5 GW, site visit inspections of +35 sites across North America, and supported +40 blade-related failures or damage investigations.

The main objective of my doctoral research was to supply wind turbine designers with a suitable decision tool for the study and design of optimal composite wind turbine blades capable of accelerating the preliminary design phase. The proposed 'winDesign' tool performs a Pareto optimization where optimal decisions are made in the presence of a trade-off between annual energy production (AEP) and blade mass, while satisfying environmental, physical and aerodynamic constraints. An innovative algorithm was developed to solve the complex wind turbine optimization problem using a newly proposed genetic algorithm inspired by biological evolution, constraint-handling and clustering analysis.
