About Andrew Cruickshank:

Hi there! My name is Andrew Cruickshank, and I'm delighted to share a bit about myself with you. I recently made the exciting move from Glasgow, Scotland, to the vibrant city of Toronto. It's been an incredible journey so far, and I'm eager to explore all that this new chapter has to offer.

In Glasgow, I gained valuable experience working for the events branch of a premium beverage company. Being a part of the dynamic events industry allowed me to showcase my passion for creating memorable experiences. I thrived in the fast-paced environment, collaborating with a talented team to ensure flawless execution of events, from large-scale festivals to intimate corporate gatherings. My attention to detail and strong organizational skills helped me contribute to the success of each event.

Prior to my role in the events industry, I held a position as a team leader in a convenience store. This experience sharpened my leadership abilities as I supervised a team of dedicated employees, overseeing daily operations and ensuring exceptional customer service. I found great satisfaction in motivating my team and fostering a positive work environment.

Before stepping into the world of retail, I honed my interpersonal and mixology skills as a bartender. Working behind the bar allowed me to engage with diverse clientele, providing them with exceptional service and crafting delicious cocktails. It was an exciting and fast-paced environment that taught me the importance of multitasking and staying calm under pressure.

Now, as I embark on this new chapter in Toronto, I'm eager to bring my diverse skill set and passion for creating exceptional experiences to new opportunities in the city. I am adaptable, enthusiastic, and thrive in collaborative environments. I'm excited to contribute my expertise and continue growing both personally and professionally.

Outside of work, I enjoy exploring new neighborhoods, immersing myself in different cultures, and indulging in Toronto's vibrant food scene. I'm also an avid reader and love expanding my knowledge in various subjects.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me. I look forward to connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations in Toronto as I embark on this exciting new adventure.

Experience

I have a diverse professional background that spans the events, retail, and hospitality industries. Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, I recently made the exciting move to Toronto, Canada. In Glasgow, I had the opportunity to work for the events branch of a premium beverage company, where I was involved in organizing and executing various events. This experience allowed me to showcase my organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring that each event was a success.

Before my time in the events industry, I served as a team leader in a convenience store. This role provided me with valuable leadership experience as I supervised a team and managed day-to-day operations. I took pride in ensuring exceptional customer service and fostering a positive work environment for my team.

Prior to my role as a team leader, I worked as a bartender, honing my interpersonal skills and mixology expertise. Behind the bar, I had the pleasure of engaging with diverse clientele, providing exceptional service, and crafting delicious cocktails. The fast-paced environment taught me the importance of multitasking and remaining calm under pressure.

Education

I hold a Bachelor's degree with Honours in Social Policy and Politics. Throughout my studies, I developed a deep understanding of the intricate relationship between societal structures, political systems, and the well-being of individuals and communities.

One of the highlights of my academic experience was the opportunity to study abroad in Budapest. Spending a semester in this vibrant and culturally rich city allowed me to gain invaluable insights into global social policy and political landscapes. Immersing myself in a new environment broadened my perspectives and enhanced my intercultural understanding. I embraced the opportunity to engage with international students and faculty, fostering lifelong connections and expanding my global network.

During my time at university, I actively engaged in various research projects and coursework that focused on analyzing social policies and their impacts on different demographics. I developed strong analytical and critical thinking skills, allowing me to evaluate complex social issues and propose evidence-based solutions. I also honed my research abilities, conducting comprehensive literature reviews, collecting data, and presenting findings in a clear and concise manner.

Moreover, my degree in Social Policy and Politics provided me with a solid foundation in political theory, policy analysis, and research methodologies. I explored topics such as inequality, social justice, public policy, and the role of government in shaping societies. This interdisciplinary approach enabled me to understand the multifaceted nature of social issues and the importance of integrating political perspectives into policy-making processes.

Beyond my academic pursuits, I actively participated in extracurricular activities related to social policy and politics. I engaged in student-led organizations, volunteered with community initiatives, and attended conferences and seminars to stay updated with the latest developments in the field. These experiences further enriched my understanding of real-world challenges and fostered a strong commitment to making a positive impact on society.

As I continue my professional journey, I am excited to leverage my knowledge, skills, and international experiences to contribute to meaningful social and political change. I am passionate about addressing social inequalities, advocating for marginalized communities, and crafting policies that promote inclusivity and well-being. I am eager to engage in opportunities where I can apply my expertise, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and contribute to creating a more equitable and just society.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my academic background and aspirations. I look forward to connecting with individuals and organizations who share my passion for social policy and politics, as we work together towards a brighter future.
