Ayah Abougoush

As a current practicum student with NAIT I have had the opportunity to rotate through MRI facilities within the Edmonton Zone and I will be eligible to write the CAMRT in May 2023. 

During my 8 months of didactic learning at NAIT I became certified in Venipuncture and Basic Life for Healthcare Providers (CPR) and was consistently tested on anatomy, pathology, scanning techniques, parameters, and MRI physics. While rotating through various hospitals and clinics in the Edmonton area, I have tested the skills and knowledge I learnt during my didactic portion of the program. At the Royal Alexandra Hospital, I became proficient in Breast and Prostate workflows, as well as assisting with Breast biopsies and Cardiac exam set up. At the University of Alberta Hospital, I was exposed to Pediatric sedation and imaging, which taught me different ways to alter my communication techniques to help both the patient and family feel at ease. By May 2023 I will have spent a total of 12 months rotating throughout various hospitals and clinics in the Edmonton area.

My rotations have taught me various ways of scanning, positioning, and the importance of working with the patient as I am often relied upon to translate in Arabic. I am comfortable relaying information about exams in a respectful and clear way to help reassure patient fears and build a comfortable environment to allow open communication for any questions or safety concerns.

MRI practicum student – May 2022 - present

• Edmonton Zone: Royal Alexandra Hospital, University of Alberta Hospital & Kaye Edmonton Clinic.
• Continual competency in neurological, musculoskeletal and body protocols. Written/practical exams to prove competency in parameters, artifacts, pathology, anatomy, scanning, screening, and venipuncture.
• Exposure to angiography, breast biopsies, prostate imaging, breast imaging, fetal imaging, pediatric sedations, and patient prep/set-up for cardiac examinations.
• Proficiency in ConnectCare and PACS.

• Served 80+ customers daily over the phone and in person in a fast-paced environment.
• Worked as a manager organizing employee schedules and managing online menu ordering services.
• Ensured clean and organized working space by stocking server areas with supplies before, during and after shifts
• Address customer concerns and complaints to improve experiences.
