Brianna’s Sweet Treats

Owner  | October 1 2014- Current

  • Since owning and operating a Federal and Provincial Corporation which was a retail bakery shop, now turned into a home business, I have become very versatile in the business world. I quickly realized I was responsible for every little detail within the corporation. I am held accountable by many including my clients, my staff, the Government, and myself. I wear many Hats and here are some to name a few….
  • Baker and decorator of all cupcakes, cookies, cakes and goodies that passed through the bakery which was open 6 days a week. This also included making sure all clients were happy with their special occasion desserts. Now we have closed the retail location and continue business at home, Brianna’s Sweet Treats still have the same amount of clients throughout the week, just no more walk-ins. There were many factors that played a part in the decision to close the retail location, with the biggest being coivd 19.
  • Finances: keeping track of all sales, expenses, and finances that came in and out every month. This was done by using microsoft excel and quickbooks. The Corporation had to file HST on a quarterly basis, and file corporate taxes every fiscal year. As well this includes day to day sales, paying bills, budgeting, etc..
  • Marketing and sales: ensuring that sales are always coming into Brianna’s Sweet Treats, this is done through trade shows, farmers markets, word of mouth, business partnerships, and foot to pavement. I am responsible for gaining clients and completing sales which has continued the success of the business. Brianna's Sweet Treats has multiple corporate partners, as well clients that have grown up with the business. I also am responsible for marketing materials such as brochures, banners, pamphlets, etc.. and social media including Facebook and Instagram.
  • Customer Service: Brianna’s Sweet Treats holds Customer Service to the highest standards as we believe without our clients we would be nothing. Since opening the doors to the retail location in 2015 we gained a lot of clients, some which have been with me all 6 years. During the first 3 years there was not a lot of finances that went towards marketing, so I had to think outside the box and build my business. Going above and beyond for my customers is something I pride myself in. Do not get me wrong there have been many challenges along the way as well which we can talk about on a later date.
  • Health and Safety: Safety for the staff and customers is a huge priority being a bakery. Ensuring all staff and equipment were always safe and clean was a constant job. Durham Region Health Department inspections were done on a regular basis and we always passed with a Green Certificate.
  • Payroll and Staffing: I was responsible for all staff as well as scheduling and payroll. Making sure all pay checks were made on time and the remittances were done on time for the Canada Revenue Agency.

Awards and Acknowledgements

  • The Proudest award I have received is Durham Regions Accessibility Award. Brianna’s Sweet Treats had a wonderful young lady named Carly who has Autism work with us. Carly was with us for 2 years and due to covid was no longer able to work with us, though we are still in contact. Carly has changed my life and opened my eyes to what every human can bring to your life. A label doesn't mean different, it means they can teach you to be a better human being.
  • Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue: during covid19 the rescue center had to close its door as it could not afford to remain open during that time. With that being said I reached out to them and we baked this world a better place one cookie at a time. We sold Racoon and Fox cookies which allowed us to raise over $1000 dollars and feed a family of 5 possums.
