Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to you today in hopes of starting a career through your RPN position. I graduated from Fanshawe College’s RPN program in 2021, and I am registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario. I believe that nursing is developing collaborative health care in the best interest of patients. I have furthered my education by taking RNAO courses depending on my work place. This includes the RNAO breastfeeding course and wound care seminar. 

Working currently at The London Skin Disorders Clinic and the Mother Baby department during my consolidation, I feel I have developed a passion for providing care for patients in many different stages of life and medical backgrounds. I would consider this position to be a great opportunity to further build on the skills and experience I have acquired throughout my education and work experience.

My experience at the London Skin Disorders Clinic and on the General Surgery Unit has taught me a lot about acute care. I feel that the skills I have acquired are highly transferable and will benefit me in this nursing role. These skills include but are not limited to wound care, medication administration, and sterile and clean technique. I feel I have developed many organizational skills in both my written and verbal communication, which allow me to be highly efficient in a fast-paced work environment.

As mentioned, my experience consolidating on the Mother Baby Care Unit for four months has taught me many valuable skills. I was responsible for mother and baby’s two-, four-, and eight-hour checks where I took vitals, completed physical exams and administered analgesics around the clock. In addition, I completed health teaching in regard to both mom and baby, some examples included what to expect for post-partum bleeding, what to do if baby is choking, and breastfeeding assistance where I completed an RNAO breastfeeding course to further my knowledge. This position taught me the importance of clear communication and accurate information during health teaching.

In 2021 I was employed as a personal care aid for a client with Congenital Intolerance to Pain with Anhidrosis. This diagnosis is accompanied with both physical and developmental challenges. My primary role is to assist with activities of daily living and companionship, which include assisting with personal hygiene, shopping, cooking meals, and creating meaningful conversation. I believe that therapeutic nurse-client relationships are vital, which would benefit me further in this role.

Given my past and present work experience and the strengths I have acquired from them, I believe I would be an asset to this team and its patients.
