About Davide Ventrone:

Davide Ventrone is a Canadian born researcher raised in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. He attended McGill University for his Undergraduate Degree in Honours Political Science with a focus on the intersection between Canadian politics, international political economy and the developing world. He is currently at Carleton University pursuing a Master's Degree in Political Economy with a concentration in Work and Labour. 

His Master’s research is focused on studying the success of infrastructure development strategies seen in policies and institutions such as the Canada Infrastructure Bank and Public-Private Partnerships. His research is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

Experience

WORK EXPERIENCE

January 2023 – April 2022 Research Assistant for Comparative Political Economy Database Project 

  • Organized a database with over 600 variables used for social science research.
  • Prepared data visualizations of comparative variables, organizing and cleaning the data, creating new variables out of existing data, preparing short presentations for students to help promote and build interest in the data. 

September 2022 – December 2022 Research Placement at CUPE National 

  • Prepared a report on a policy issue relevant for the contemporary labor movement.
  • Researched mainstream model of socially conscious investing among known as E.S.G (Environmental, Social, Governance) and its consequences for union pension investments.
  • Researched and analyzed financial news, academic books and articles, independent research reports, and corporate financial statements.
  • Reported weekly to supervisor and gave updates on findings of ongoing research.
  • Attended meetings with members of the labor movement to discuss issues surrounding the organized labor’s response to the climate crises, pension financialization, and green investing. This includes the Ontario Federation of Labor and Canadian Labor Congress. 

 

August 2022- April 2023 VP External, Executive Member, Union Local CUPE 4600

  • Organized communications and events with external organizations including national and provincial offices of CUPE, other unions on and outside of campus, social activist groups, and campus groups including student unions, interest groups and academic bodies. 
  • Ran and monitored social media accounts. 
  • Attended executive board meetings and made decisions on organizational direction, budgets and spending, member engagement, and strike organization. 

June 2022- April 2023 Unit 1 Bargaining Committee Member, Union Local CUPE 4600 

  • Represented teaching assistants in bargaining with Carleton University. 
  • Met with representatives of the employer to negotiate improves to the collective agreement, developing collective agreement articles, meeting with members to develop articles. 

September 2021- April 2023    Teaching Assistant, Carleton University

  • Aided instructors in delivering courses. 
  • Answered emails, aided students with the course material, corrected assignments, exams and papers. 

May 2022- August 2022    Program Analyst for Immigration Program Guidance, Government of Canada Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

  • Assisted in the delivery of programs regarding responsibilities of the IRCC.
  • Identified reasons for the systematic rejection of permanent resident photos through data and photo analysis. 
  • Provided reports of permanent resident card rejections and identified discrepancies in photo quality.
  • Reviewed pre-release webpages that provided instructions to permanent resident card applicants on the official government of Canada website. 

Jan. 2022 -June 2022, CUPE Labor Council Representative, Union Local CUPE 4600 

  •  Met with the Ottawa Municipal Labor Council to represent the members of CUPE Local 4600 about the government's activities. 
  • Met with the Ottawa CUPE District Council to represent members of CUPE Local 4600 about the city wide CUPE activity.
