Education
In course 3991 at TRU I was introduced to various concepts of sustainability, and got to learn the different components through a project. In this project I was tasked with idenfitying stakeholders, ecological risk, economic viability, and social support. I selected the logging of old growth forest on Vancouver Island. By researching these, and associated topics I was able to explore the components of a ecological risk assessment, sustainable develop goals, and programs, as well as the importance of economic viablity, and community support when it comes to developing an accurate impact assessment.
In the course BIOL 3021 at TRU I was able to learn and develop practical skills such as, ecological journaling, sampling, data collection, and analysis. This course is online and self directed therefore affording me the opportunity design my own ecological experiement utilizing the scientific method. I designed my own sampling method by researching the various types and identifying the most approperiate method. I am currently working on the data collection portion, and using the skills I gained from statistical analysis to conduct a proper analysis of my collected data.
In the course ES200 and ES240 I was introduced to fundamental concepts, and information of environmental studies. I learned about the various types of ecology and the unique role each plays. Here, I learned the value of culture connections, and community engagement when it comes to the success of an environmental restoration project, or conservation effort.
