About Evelyn Li:

I am a Master of Applied Science candidate in Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto, specializing in the performance of materials in extreme environments. My current research focuses on investigating the corrosion behaviour of additively manufactured materials for molten salt reactor applications, directly addressing key challenges in next-generation nuclear systems. With a strong background in additive manufacturing, materials characterization, and machine learning, I bridge the gap between fundamental research and practical engineering solutions. My work, recognized through publications and prestigious scholarships, is driven by a passion for developing innovative materials to advance clean energy technology.

Experience

I am a materials researcher with hands-on experience in developing and characterizing materials for demanding environments, particularly relevant to the nuclear sector. My graduate research at the Laboratory for Extreme Mechanics & Additive Manufacturing focuses on investigating corrosion and stress corrosion cracking in advanced alloys and additively manufactured steels. I have pioneered a novel magnetic field-assisted manufacturing technique for creating graded components and developed a machine learning model in Python to optimize this process. This work is complemented by practical skills in electrochemical/mechanical testing (LPR, CPP, EIS, and SSRT testings), advanced characterization (SEM/EDS, XPS), and proficiency in engineering design software like SolidWorks and CATIA, providing a strong foundation for mechanical design and analysis.

Education

I am currently completing a Master of Applied Science in Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA in all graduate courses. This follows the completion of my Bachelor of Applied Science in the same discipline, where I graduated with high distinction. My graduate studies are intensely focused on the performance and degradation of materials, including my current project on corrosion in molten salt environments. This advanced education has provided me with a deep theoretical and practical understanding of material science—a desired asset for the role—and directly supports engineering tasks involving material selection, failure analysis, and the development of robust components.
