Faten Alshaikh

In 1993, I got a Specialized Post-graduate Diploma in “Abstract mathematics” from the University of Damascus, Syria. After that, between 1993-2010, I worked at the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) as a technician in GIS. During my work there, I achieved a good experience in geomatics, as I participated in preparing objective maps related to groundwater, surface water, land use, vegetation and geological studies for many projects implemented in ACSAD in cooperation with a team of experts there.

Furthermore, in 2009 I was awarded a scholarship in Holland for an intensive course (576 hours) in “Principles of Spatial Data Handling”: Databases, GIS and Remote sensing at ITC, in Enschede, the Netherlands. 

In the year 2010 I immigrated to Canada and during the period 2011-2014, I followed courses to learn French at Center Yves Theriault, Montreal, Quebec. Also, between 2014-2017, I followed English language enhancement courses at JFK Adult Education Center.

In 2018, I continued to strengthen my French at Rosemont High School in order to enroll in the French University UQAM, which has a good reputation among Canadian universities in the field of geomatics. In 2019, I was accepted to the University of Quebec at Montreal-UQAM to undertake a postgraduate specialized in GIS and Remote Sensing D.E.S.S.

Subsequently, I completed a 9-month internship at Construction Engineering Department, ÉTS (ÉCOLE DE TECHNOLOGIE SUPÉRIEURE) in Montreal in collaboration with a team of experts there, where I was assigned all the tasks related to geomatics: data collection, creation of databases, data analysis, mapping etc., as part of a project called: “Assessment of the impacts of forest fires at the urban interface of the virgin forest” related to forest fires in Alberta and British Columbia, between 2021-2022.

Excellent knowledge of spatial analysis software (ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro).

Strong knowledge of mathematics including statistics.

Accuracy, precision and attention to detail.

Very good analytical and synthesis skills
