Firas Zouaghi

My training as a student engineer in electromechanics, allowed me to acquire a wide range of skills in general engineering and revealed to me the world of new technologies. Between face-to-face courses, professional internship and self-training, I mastered the basic tools in mechanics (CAD using SolidWorks and Catia V5), programming (Python/C/C++), robotics (embedded software programming using Arduino/Raspberry PI/STM 32) and electronics (Manipulation of different sensors and actuators)

Then, I obtained the graduate diploma of specialization studies (DEES) in mechanical engineering with a GPI 3.8/4.3 from Sherbrooke university. I had courses that forged my skills in 3D modeling using SolidWorks software and general mechanics constitutive laws. 
After that, I started a master’s degree program in mechanical engineering: I worked on material science, in particular, determining mechanical properties (Adhesion/Tensile strength) of freestanding Ge membranes. 

I also conducted many simulations using ANSYS and COMSOL Multiphysics (Current GPI 3.78/4.2).
During the last two years, I managed to build up a solid experience in mechanical engineering starting from theory and the state of art to modeling solutions using various CAD software such as SolidWorks and manufacturing. I’ve also mastered FEM software such as ANSYS and COMSOL Multiphysics using modules of Fracture mechanics theory and linear elasticity constitutive laws to determine mechanical properties of freestanding membranes such as fracture toughness, adhesion (Tensile strength) and residual stresses (3D and 2D models).

As a Research and Development Engineer at the Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation in Sherbrooke, QC, Canada, I possess a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including structural analysis, fracture mechanics, thermal analysis, and materials science. I have extensive experience using ANSYS and COMSOL Multiphysics for finite element modeling and proficiency in software programs such as SolidWorks and Catia v5 for mechanical design. I am knowledgeable about the product development lifecycle, including design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing. I have also contributed to the development of a patented pull-test invention for measuring mechanical properties of thin films, showcasing my ability to innovate and solve complex engineering R&D problems.

I have a strong academic background in theoretical modeling and programming. During my studies, I conducted a comprehensive literature review on layer transfer processes and synthesis of porous materials for photovoltaic applications. I also developed a model to simulate the adhesion strength, fracture toughness, Young's modulus, and Poisson's ratio of porous semiconductor materials.

Additionally, I have gained practical experience in programming self-driving robots, including mastery of embedded C, C++, and Python to control microcontrollers such as STM32, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi. I am proficient in handling actuators such as stepper motors, servo motors, and linear actuators, as well as different types of sensors including LIDAR, cameras, proximity sensors, and range sensors. I have also developed skills in motion coding for autonomous mobile robots. Overall, my education and experience have equipped me with a strong foundation in theoretical modeling and programming, as well as practical skills in robotics.
