Research Lab Supervisor/Tech, Clinical Neuroscience, University of Calgary Nov 2019 – Present
In the current role, I am involved in different ongoing preclinical research projects that deal with finding the drug candidates for the prevention of neuronal loss and dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease and stroke. Some of my responsibilities include the following –
- Submission of protocols and their modifications using IRISS platform.
- Managing contracts with different vendors with the help of university legal services team.
- Day to day management of lab operations, as well as managing lab facilities.
- Acts as a liaison between lab and different stakeholders to resolve issues related to routine lab operation.
- Completion of lab related administrative tasks, including reconciling invoices, managing finances and maintaining compliance with regulations.
- Guiding trainee and assisting other lab members in their routine work.
- Making reports and presenting data in lab meetings.
- Designing experiments, data collection and analysis.
Research Assistant, Physiology and Pharmacology, University of Calgary July 2018 – August 2019
Worked on a preclinical breast cancer project, wherein tumors are induced with human breast cancer cell line in mouse model, and different drug regimens are tested for their safety, efficacy, and adverse effects.
As a Research Assistant, my responsibilities were as follows –
- Day-to-day management of the lab as well as looking after the administrative work.
- Conducting experiments as per the protocol and collecting data accurately and precisely.
- Statistical analysis of data and generate results in desired format.
- Literature review in support of the ongoing research.
Research Technician, Medical Genetics, University of Calgary July 2013 – June 2018
Worked on preclinical drug discovery projects, which involve making genetic models of diseases for different human neurodevelopment disorders such as Epilepsy and Autism in Zebrafish, characterizing mutant fish and screening different FDA approved drug compounds on diseased fish models.
My main duties as a Research Technician were as follows –
- Designing and executing experiments independently and in coordination with team members.
- Collection of data and performing quantitative and qualitative analyses.
- Interpretation of data following statistical analysis.
- Reviewing scientific papers, summarizing, and concluding key findings.
