About Juliette Coleman:
My name is Juliette Coleman,
I am a multidisciplinary artist who trained professionally in dance for 15+ years. Since 2018 I have been producing and curating multidisciplinary concerts in Toronto under the name, Not A Collective. In 2020, I began working in film, specifically in movement and dance livestreams and films. I began working under Oscar-nominated director, Barbara Willis-Sweete as a Director's Assistant and Script Assistant. During this time i developed my own film practice and have since directed and worked on my own creative film projects as a director and editor. In 2021 I began working at yap films, an independent documentary company in Toronto as a Executive Assistant and Office Manager. This position taught me much about the industry and how to work quick and efficiently in a high stress environment.
I am an extremely motivated person, I pick things up very quickly and enjoy working hard for things that I am passionate about. I have been working with and alongside artists for many years and see this as my primary passion: using my skillset to help artists achieve and disseminate their creative vision and work.
Experience
Since 2018 I have been producing and curating multidisciplinary concerts in Toronto under the name, Not A Collective. Through Not a Collective I have produced and curated over 15 shows and fundraisers with artists from Toronto. This work has continued to the present and I am currently developing a multidisciplinary concert series for 2023/2024.
In 2020, I began working in film, specifically dance livestreams and films. I began working under Oscar-nominated director, Barbara Willis-Sweete as a Director's Assistant and Script Assistant. With Barbara becoming a mentor of mine, we worked on over 15 livestreams in Toronto and New York, 1 short film and 1 full length film. During this time I developed my own film practice and have since directed and edited 5 short film, 4 dance focused films and one EPK for a local Toronto band. In 2021 I began working at yap films, an independent documentary company in Toronto as an Executive Assistant and Office Manager. This position taught me much about the industry and how to work quick and efficiently in a high stress environment. AT this position I handle the calendars of the executives of the company, organize travel for film shoots, panels conferences and in general make sure the office runs smoothly and efficiently.
Education
For two years (2018-2020) I attended a professional dance training in program at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. I then sought to take credited course at Toronto Metropolitan University in Psychology, specifically in their Mental Health and Addictions program as well as two film courses in Film Technology and Fiction Screenwriting. I also took directing workshops at UCLA Extensions and The Sundance Institute (Sundance Co//ab) in 2022.
