Jyot Saini

I am currently a fourth year software engineering student at UVic, and I will be graduating at the
end of August, 2023. During my time as a student, I have always strived to learn and improve
myself as I’ve continued to progress in my education.

I am a software engineer with excellent problem solving skills, excellent written and oral
communication skills, and a dedication to learning and nurturing new skills. Over the past four
years, I have gained experience with languages such as Java, C++, Python, Javascript and C
as well as experience with Operating Systems, Networking, Linear Algebra and Abstract
Algebra. In addition, I have experience working in Agile environments and designing production
ready code.

During my time at University, I have attended DubHacks, a hackathon hosted at University of
Washington where my team and I created a web-based chatbot using a mixture of Python,
JavaScript and Java. For our Human Computer Interaction class, my group mates and I
developed a thorough front end prototype for a music streaming app called Tailr (available upon request) employing a Human Centered Design approach and
implementing many HCD strategies. Further, I have been a part of multiple projects with the
UVic Formula Club and also a member of the University Rowing Team, which has fostered a
deep appreciation for group dynamics and being an independent yet successful member of a
team. I have previous work experience from my time at Kater, Oceans Network Canada, and
Communications Security Establishment, where I gained considerable experience with tools
such as Jmeter, Balsamiq, and Reactor, and used Java and Javascript in a professional setting.
At Kater, I was allowed the opportunity to work and gain experience as an Android Developer,
where I learned to contribute to a GitFlow project using proper methodology and write clean,
testable code. At CSE, I have been fortunate enough to train under a mentor who has dedicated
daily efforts towards helping me progress in my professional development.

Communications Security Establishment — Software Engineer 

May 2023 - August 2023
(CSE is mandated to secure Canada’s networks and communications infrastructure)
Developed new features using frameworks and technologies such as Spring Boot, Reactor, Jackson, JSON Schema, Checkstyle.
Implemented a new configurable query service to allow analysts to customize their frontend experience using JSON configs.
Integrated third party libraries to verify correctness of incoming payloads.

Ocean Networks Canada — Software Engineer 

May 2021 - December 2021
(Ocean Networks Canada monitors Canada’s coasts and oceans)
As part of the SeaTube team designed and implemented a UI testing algorithm using Java and Selenium.
Designed and developed significant new features allowing researchers to create playlists, annotate videos, and helped implement new screens.
Worked collaboratively through paired programming sessions, primarily using Balsamiq and Java.

Kater— Software Engineer 

January 2019 - August 2019
(Kater is a ridesharing company operating in Vancouver)
As a developer on the Android team, worked on bug fixes using Android Studio, Java, and Appium.
Automated the regression and load testing processes, and integrated them into the CI/CD pipeline. Test results were used to extrapolate backend’s capabilities. This led directly to the migration of our backend architecture from Heroku to AWS.
Built new systems and internal tools using Heroku, Jmeter, Selenium, and Postman.
