KEHINDE ABIODUN-AJAYI

I am a new graduate nurse with practice experience as a student nurse in diverse clinical settings such as med-surg, psychiatry, geriatric, and hematology. I have 8 years of experience working with the geriatric population both as a PSW (in a LTC setting and TOH’s orthopedic unit) and as a Nurse graduate training on a hematology unit. I am highly experienced in Infection control methods and fall prevention techniques.

I am experienced in managing age related changes, common chronic problems, dementia care, handling challenging behaviors ethically, and ensuring patient’s safety and security needs.

My most recent and extensive nursing practice was as a graduate nurse in training on a hematology unit (oncology) for three months, where I successfully took on a full patient workload. During my brief stint at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus Hematology unit, I was trained and gained experience and proficiency in nursing skills such as Patient assessment and monitoring, Medication reconstitution, and administration, infection control methods, Sterile wound dressing, Peripheral IV catheter dressing change, NG tube management, medical administration, and feeding, Urethral catheter insertion and management, PICC and peripheral IV catheter dressing change, Blood products transfusion management, common chronic disease management, Point of Care Testing (POCT)- Blood Glucose, Timely and accurate documentation of provided care.

Previously, I had eight years of work experience as a Personal Support Worker (PSW), and

the last three years have been as an orderly in the Orthopedic Surgery unit (6NE) at the Ottawa 

Hospital General Campus. I am highly skilled in assisting with activities of daily living, 

delivered in an empathetic, and safe manner to patients. I have good knowledge of transfer and positioning techniques. These are transferable skills that I am bringing in into my nursing practice to enable me to provide safe, compassionate, and competent care to patients.
