About kieran Young:

Kieran fits seamlessly into the roles of Indigenous Community Engagement Specialist, Youth Program Coordinator, and Indigenous Relations Advisor because he lives and leads with purpose, cultural integrity, and practical experience. He doesn’t just understand Indigenous worldviews, he actively carries them forward through ceremony, language, and everyday action. Kieran has a rare ability to move between community spaces and corporate settings without compromising who he is.

He has coordinated cultural events, facilitated youth programs, and advised on reconciliation efforts with clarity and care. His leadership style is rooted in relationship-building, storytelling, and showing up for his people. Whether it’s managing budgets, planning events, or navigating cross-functional teams, Kieran brings a calm, solutions-focused approach that gets results without losing heart.

He leads with humility, but his impact is undeniable. When he’s involved, people feel seen, heard, and included. That’s what makes him not just qualified, but essential in these roles.

Experience

I’m an experienced Indigenous professional with a strong background in community engagement, cultural education, and Indigenous relations. I’ve led youth programs, taught Cree, and organized cultural events like teepee raisings, smudges, and beading workshops across Alberta and Saskatchewan.

I completed a year-long internship with Cenovus Energy on the Community Indigenous Affairs team, where I managed budgets, built community profiles, and supported reconciliation initiatives within the company. Before that, I worked in the oilfield as a roughneck and derrick hand, where I learned the value of safety, teamwork, and leadership under pressure.

I’ve also served as a project lead with Canadian Roots Exchange, coordinating national programming, writing grants, and helping my team navigate complex challenges. I sit on the board of Iskotew Fire Training and represent youth with the Lloydminster Native Friendship Centre, where I advise on program development, budgeting, and cultural initiatives.

With a degree in Indigenous Studies and a minor in Sociology, I bring both academic knowledge and lived experience to everything I do. My work is grounded in building relationships, promoting cultural integrity, and creating spaces where Indigenous voices are heard and valued.

Education

I hold a degree in Indigenous Studies with a minor in Sociology, which has given me a strong foundation in understanding Indigenous governance, social systems, and community dynamics. To support my work in cultural education and language revitalization, I also completed a Certificate in Conversational Cree. This certificate has strengthened both my fluency and confidence in teaching the Cree language, which I’ve used in classrooms and cultural workshops. Together, my education supports my ability to work across sectors—blending cultural knowledge, academic theory, and grassroots experience.
