Melanie Grant

Hi there! My name is Melanie, I'm 29 years old and during my spare time I like to play strategy board games, paint miniatures, and bike riding in the local area. As a non-binary, indigenous person I believe that I have a lot to offer professionally and personally to a team of down-to-earth and open-minded people! I love learning new things and teaching others new things as well, any challenge that comes my way is a challenge I'm always willing to overcome.

I have worked for BGIS for 5 years and have been trusted in roles that have a high-learning curve that allow me to work independently and as a team. Within 3 months of being employed as an entry-level CSR, I was offered a position to head the department of security. While learning a role entirely independently, and facing adversity during the pandemic, I completely revamped our security department, later building a security team and moving onto my current role. I continue to show exemplary learning and adaptive skills that allow me to expand my professional tool set while striving for my own personal goals. I am eager to move into a role that is both challenging and allows room for growth suited to my needs and strengths.

In 2013 I graduated from Algonquin College with a diploma in Developmental Studies. After working in the field for about 4 years, I was offered a stimulating role in a more controlled office setting that allowed me to expand on my problem-solving and individual growth. While working with people with disabilities in such a vulnerable setting was not for me, I advocate every day for accessibility in the workplace. In 2021 I attended a free online course with the University of Alberta studying Indigenous History after doing DNA testing and discovering my own indigenous background. As an adopted person, it is very important to me to learn more about myself and the history of indigenous people. Additionally, I have been learning Danish so I can one day visit my friends who live there and experience the culture in Denmark while also learning a fun, new language!
