About Mohamed Kermalli:
I'm Mohamed, a law student at the University of Birmingham who's fascinated by the intersection of law and business. My journey has been shaped by a genuine curiosity about how legal frameworks can support and enable commercial innovation while protecting the interests of all stakeholders involved.
Before diving into my legal studies, I earned my Master of Management at Schulich, where I had the incredible opportunity to work with talented classmates on real-world business challenges. One of my proudest moments was presenting to RBC executives on how they could navigate the complexities of integrating HSBC Canada's wealth business. It reinforced my belief that the best legal and business solutions come from understanding both the technical details and the human impact of our decisions.
My time at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat taught me that behind every contract and regulation are real people whose lives are affected by how we structure agreements and interpret policy. I worked on pension programs, which meant every improvement I helped implement had a direct impact on retirees and their families. That experience grounded me in the reality that legal work isn't just about documents, it's about people's financial security and peace of mind.
I've also had the chance to work with startups and small businesses, most recently helping a SaaS company rethink its business model and growth strategy. What drives me is seeing how smart legal structuring and strategic thinking can help businesses scale while staying true to their values and protecting their stakeholders.
What excites me most about law is its potential to facilitate innovation rather than just mitigate risk. I'm drawn to corporate and commercial law, M&A, and legal tech because these areas are where creative problem solving meets practical impact. I love working on challenges that require me to think beyond the textbook, whether that's structuring a deal, improving operational processes, or translating complex legal concepts into actionable business advice.
As I continue my legal education, I'm looking for opportunities to learn from experienced practitioners while contributing my business perspective and entrepreneurial energy to meaningful projects.
