Field Work: 

  • Planned and executed field, lab, and greenhouse experiments on plating methods, crop residue management, crop diversification, crop rotation, soil salinity, irrigation   & integrated pest management, seed priming, site-specific nutrient management, and devised production technology of newly evolved lines/varieties.
  • Conducted field surveys, collected and analyzed soil & water samples, and recommended appropriate type, dose, and application method of soil amendments for reclamation of saline and sodic soils.
  • Performed screening of pre/post-emergence herbicides for effective weed control in field crops.  
  • Conducted field trials for comparison of different maize hybrids & varieties for silage production.
  • Applied fertilizers, weedicides, manures, and irrigation to the field trials as per experimental protocols.

  • Developed Leaf Color Chart for site-specific nitrogen management, resulting in urea saving upto 20% 
  • Developed prototype rice drill for direct rice seeding (DSR) by modifying ZT Happy Seeder.  
  • Promoted conservation agricultural practices of planting wheat in standing rice stubble with Zero Tillage Happy Seeder by sowing demonstration plots at farmers’ fields, which enabled farmers to lower their production cost by 15% without compromising the crop yield.
  • Introduced Bed-Furrow Planter for cotton crop and promoted it through field demonstrations, which resolved issues of poor germination & over irrigation. It increased crop yield by 200 kg per acre.

Lab Work:

  • Performed soil, water, and plant sampling from the farmers’ fields, did labeling, drying, grinding, and sieving of plant, fertilizer, and soil samples.
  • Prepared soil saturation extract, stock solutions, and reagents for chemical analysis.
  • Standardized EDTA solution for determination of Ca+Mg in soil extract or water samples, and standardized NaOH solution against phthalic acid. 
  • Determined pH, EC, bulk density, soil textural class, and hydraulic conductivity of soil samples 
  • Analyzed soil and water samples to determine carbonates, bicarbonates, calcium, magnesium, sodium, chlorides, extractable potassium, available phosphorus, EC, pH, and other parameters using instruments like pH meter, EC meter, Flame photometer, and Spectrophotometer. 
  • Did fertilizer samples analysis for estimation of ureic, ammoniacal & nitric N by Kjeldahl method, estimation of P by titrimetric method, and determination of K by Flame photometer method.
  • Conducted lab tests for estimation of total N and organic matter in soil and plant samples, and purity of gypsum samples.
  • Evaluated soil test results to identify nutrient deficiencies or imbalances and recommended appropriate fertilizer applications.
  • Worked in the seed lab for testing seed germination, vigour, and purity. 
  • Ensured accuracy & reliability of lab analysis and kept the laboratory neat, clean, and organized.
