About Nicole Langleben:
I am a dedicated individual who is passionate about scientific advancement through innovative technical design and interdisciplinary collaboration. I have diverse experience working with vulnerable populations and hope to make tangible difference using holistic strategies for those who experience gaps in healthcare. I look forward to applying my several technical proficiencies and clinical immersion experiences to employment opportunities. My extensive background in research has given me a true appreciation for academic work and approaching biological systematics as dynamic networks. I am particularly passionate about applications in regenerative research, rehabilitative/assistive devices, biomechanics, and textile-integrated sensors and actuators. Many leadership positions, including overseeing the Queen's Correctional Service Volunteers, acting a Job Coach for high school students with cognitive disabilities, and more, highlights my ability to inspire and lead teams effectively. Through various extracurricular clubs and other professional experiences, I have honed my leadership, analytical problem solving skills, creativity, persistence, and more, thus setting a solid foundation for my future endeavours.
Experience
I have diverse experience in multiple professional disciplines. My extensive background in research has given me a true appreciation for academic work and approaching biological systematics as dynamic networks. By meticulously applying scientific methodologies, I have contributed to numerous research projects, including a retrospective analysis examining the efficacy of medical cannabis in epilepsy treatment with the Neurology Centre of Toronto. Similarly, under the supervision of Dr. Adrian Baranchuk with the Queen’s School of Medicine, I have co-authored multiple reviews investigating the function of alternative electrocardiography lead placements and their various uses. As a research assistant with Sick Kids facilitating the protocol of a genetic-epidemiological study, I used ethical procedures to obtain consent and maintain reliability in clinical data collection. Through these scholarly experiences, I honed professionalism and the ability to collaborate with people of diverse skill sets to conquer complex challenges.
I have developed unwavering interpersonal skills through my extensive experience with vulnerable populations. As a Job Coach at the Reena Foundation, I supported high school students with disabilities in navigating the work force, using my positionality to advocate for marginalized individuals. As a correctional service volunteer, I aid in the re-integration of federal offenders back into society through social programming and educational workshops focusing on literacy, housing, financial aid, and other relevant life skills. These individuals come from diverse backgrounds and experiences and are often unpredictable at times. I have learned how to quickly adapt to new interactions and face challenges outside of my comfort zone. I have sharpened numerous interpersonal skills from these experiences such as advocacy, collaboration, and communication and bringing me a deeper appreciation and desire to support vulnerable populations. This will allow me to excel in a professional environment that uses technical strategies to solve gaps in healthcare.
