About Ranime Cheikh-Salem:
My name is Ranime, and I graduated in electrical engineering at Concordia University. I completed an 8-month internship at TELUS. Throughout my academic journey and my internship at TELUS during the summer of 2021, I have been involved in various projects. Specifically, I was a member of the MCE (Mission Critical Environments) energy efficiency and program optimization team. During this time, I had the opportunity to work on three interesting projects: a solar panel project, a cost analysis project, and a battery failure prediction project.
My experience during the 8-month internship at TELUS was highly enjoyable. I was fortunate to be surrounded by a great team that was welcoming and always ready to offer assistance whenever needed. Throughout my internship, I was able to apply the knowledge I gained during my bachelor's degree and also learn from my managers. Being passionate about technology, I chose to pursue engineering, and I believe my dedication and enthusiasm will make me a valuable asset to Kiewit.
I thrive in a team-oriented environment and possess excellent organizational skills. Through the various projects I have worked on, I have developed a diverse skill set, which I believe will enable me to make a meaningful contribution to the Junior Electrical Engineer/Coordinator role at Kiewit. I am eager and motivated to continue learning and expanding my knowledge in this field.
Experience
During my 8-month internship at TELUS, I had the opportunity to work on three interesting projects. The first project I worked on was a solar panel project, where I collaborated with an engineer graduate, Patrick. Our objective was to determine the optimal discharge of the batteries powering the solar panel in order to maximize their lifespan. We utilized Pandas to analyze the data from an actual solar panel site. With the guidance of our managers, Dominic Dupuis and Jonah Braverman, Patrick and I successfully identified the optimal discharge levels based on seasonal variations. We compiled a comprehensive report, and our solution was implemented at the solar site.
In the second project, I focused on conducting a cost analysis. Using Pandas, I examined data from previous projects undertaken by our team to associate costs with specific units of measurement. I presented the findings to our team through a PowerPoint presentation, which served as a valuable resource for budget management purposes.
The third project involved analyzing voltage data from wet cell batteries. Using Pandas, I employed predictive modeling techniques to anticipate battery failures. The results were regularly updated in a SQL database using the most recent data. These failure prediction dates were instrumental in prioritizing battery replacements.
Education
I have completed my bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Concordia.
