Sarah George

Hello! My name is Sarah and I am a third year student at the University of Trento in Italy, studying to obtain my second Bachelor's degree in Comparative, European and International Legal Studies. In Canada, I have obtained an Honour's Bachelor Degree, majoring in Law and Society with a minor in Human Rights. I am passionate about a number of areas within the field of human rights, particularly related to social justice issues, climate change, immigration and refugee policies, as well as gender equality. 

I have had the opportunity to work in different fields and environments such as in customer service positions, a nursing home, a social media platform, and event management. In the summer of 2021, I worked as a resident assistant at Caressing Care Nursing Home whereby I assisted in providing care to the elderly. I worked as an event and social media manager for two years with Her Campus Media. I initially involved as a volunteer, then transitioned into an internship role whereby I was responsible for planning and executing all events alongside the chapter Presidents, as well as collaborating with the marketing directors and social media team in creating advertisements and social media content. 

The course work that I have completed in Canada at Wilfred Laurier University is related to diverse fields such as immigration policies, alternative dispute resolution, corporate form, transitional justice as well as topics related to international law. The courses were taught from a societal lens in its reciprocal relationship with the law, that is situated within the contexts of globalization, capitalism, social and systemic injustices. 

When I came to Italy to study at the University of Trento, I wanted to enhance my understanding of the international community on a substantive level. Every course entailed a comparative analysis of the subject matter, with a predominant focus on nation States within the Western legal tradition. However, some courses required the study and comparison of other regional systems such as the African Union, Association of SouthEast Asian Nations, and the Organization of American States.
