Experience

When I was a teenager I helped my uncle with his small farm, after I started the college and I got Job as cashier in the Colombia’s bigger supermarket for almost 7 years to cover my studies in the college on Animal Husbandry. My duties were mixing milk replacer with NRV mixer of 90 gallons, calculated medicine to be mixed with the milk replacer, fed 800 baby calves from 1 week old to 2 months old in huts and individual pens with bottled milk replacer, rationed grain for calves, tube-fed water and electrolytes to calves, sorted and graded baby calves and steers depending on the weight, the gender and the breed, castrated, dehorned and ear-tagged cattle.

I worked with machinery to formulate rations to beef animals (ration made of hay, corn silage, corn, oat, distillers, soy bean, minerals and syrup). Also more of my duties were grinding corn, pushed feed with skid steers, cleaned bunks, got silage with JCB Loadall, crushed hay and mixed feed to take ingredients with bobcat, bedded cattle with bale processor, cleaned pens with bobcats, organized bales of hay and pallets of supplies with skid steers, moved cattle with four wheels.

I worked with animal health; Coordinated closely with veterinarians to implement their health protocols, medicated animals from 1 week old to animals 14 months old with 1500 pounds’ weight (in pastures, group and individual pens, and huts), took temperatures, applied injections as needed, gave pills, assisted births, milked 15 hospital cows, helped with routine herd checks, vaccinated in skin, nose and mouth.

When I got done my internship in Wisconsin I came back to Colombia and I got my diploma in Animal Husbandry from my college “Corporación Universitaria Lasallista” then I travelled to Canada to work as Animal care specialist in a beef farm in Caledon-Ontario.
