Valerie Beltran

Film production student with a background in communications, interested in post-production. Self-motivated, and naturally curious. Highly organized. Experience in administration, costumer service, and editing. 

Throughout my BA I was running Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy and working as VP Internal for Model Parliament, here I learned how to communicate in work settings, plan events, budget, and fundraise. These are skills which were proven to be extremely important in ensuing professional roles at CIBC and the Aids HealthCare Foundation, where I scheduled and coordinated meetings, responded to phone calls and emails, managed contact lists and worked extensively with different softwares such as Excel and File Transfer Protocol. These administrative and personal skills gave me the confidence and self-motivation to seek funding and work for the Cynosure art collective, which was a fast paced creative environment which sparked my passion.

These valuable professional experiences led to interning at ProImagenes Colombia where I worked with film-makers and producers to create storyboards, and promotional videos, and  then went on to work freelance  as a production assistant and video editor for different film projects.

I am very grateful for my experience in administration because it has taught me useful skills such as organization, efficiency, and communication, all which have helped me in developing further creative skills in the film industry and I hope will lead to more opportunities to learn. 

Currently studying film production on a very part-time basis at Concordia University, this BFA is allowing me to hone the technical skills needed to work on sets. My prior BA in political science and communications from McGill University allowed me the opportunity to grow my skills in writing, digesting complex information, and following instruction, but most importantly i allowed me to have experiences in different leadership and administrative positions both on and off campus.
