Summary

The Walk-In Counselling Clinic (TWICC) is a collaboration of over 20 agencies that have been operating for over 8 years.

TWICC provides same day professional mental health counselling to the population of Eastern Ontario at no cost.

TWICC therapists see individuals, couples, and families and the services are focused on a brief, client centered therapy model and is offered in person (across Eastern Ontario), by video or by phone.


Responsibilities:

Essential Minimum Qualifications


As part of their role, the psychiatrist will provide:
A single-session (up to 1 hour) consultation to referred TWICC clients


Consultations will focus on:

  • Initiating diagnostic assessments and steps to establish procedures for diagnosing patients without previous mental health assessment/diagnoses.
  • Clarifying diagnosis/formulation already received by other mental health professionals.
  • Reviewing and recommending medication/treatment when needed for more appropriate and individualized medication/treatment management.
  • Recommending psychosocial interventions to client and other health professionals in their circle of care.
  • Provide the TWICC referring party with a clinical report of the consultation within a timely manner (12 weeks) since appointment took place.
  • Recommend, when needed, additional/further medical testing and other diagnostic procedures for purpose of confirming or defining mental health diagnoses and more indepth assessment.
  • Participate in the effective and responsive clinical practice within the multidisciplinary environment of TWICC to ensure a comprehensive continuity of care, including referrals to other appropriate medical and/or community care supports.
  • Complete all required reports and documents related to the provision of patient care in a timely fashion, and store all such reports and documents securely, in keeping with TWICC Protocols and Policies and privacy legislation. Reports will be transmitted to TWICC clinician for distribution, to client and, as needed, with client consent, to primary health care practitioner or other involved professionals.
  • Preferably, provide the service to clientele inperson/onsite in a communitybased settings and if required, via web conferencing. When required, TWICC will provide the adequate workspace.
Experience and Knowledge

  • Proven experience in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of clients with moderate to severe mental health disorders
  • Demonstrated experience and ability of comprehensive assessment, leading to a diagnosis and a treatment plan for the care, rehabilitation, and stabilization of clients/patients with mental illness, and emotional and behavioral disorders
  • Strong crisis management and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to assess issues to identify causes, generate possible solutions and make recommendations in a calm and timely manner
  • Knowledge of communitybased resources, including health care facilities, mental health centers, addiction support services, health facilities, social agencies, etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of working within a client centered, strengths based and antioppression frameworks
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with outside health care facilities, agencies, and service providers
  • Sound skills in the development and documentation of specific interventions, as well as, evaluating service outcomes
  • Ability to work with webbased video conferencing
  • Ability to speak languages in addition to English is an asset.

Qualifications:


  • Member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  • Has malpractice protection through a commercial insurance program or membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act as well as other relevant legislation in Ontario.
  • A commitment to the advancement of diversity with a strong background addressing issues of racial justice, ethnic and religious biases, gender, and LGBTQ+ equity, disability rights, and other facets of social justice.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario legislation applicable to the health care, nonprofit and mental health fields.
