As NAIT continues to grow its student body and lead the way in hands on learning, we are recruiting skilled and passionate individuals to help support current and future industry professionals and become an art of Canada's leading polytechnic.


Reporting to the Department Head, Dental and Animal Clinical Services department in the School of Health and Life Science, the position is responsible for the day to day operations of our lab/clinic spaces.

The position will also deliver technical lessons in the lab environment independently, under the guidance of instructors, using existing rubrics and assessments tools provided by instructors, to evaluate students in all dental technology disciplines.


Key Responsibilities:


Lab/Clinic:

  • Maintain and calibrate lab/clinic equipment
  • Ensure lab/clinic safety
  • Manufacture specialized items when required
  • Ensure work area is in a safe and clean condition
  • Liaison with other sections or programs when required
  • Maintain consumables and inventory of equipment
  • Assist with maintaining Standard Operating Procedure and safety manuals when required

Instructional Support:

  • Independently deliver in lab/clinic technical activities/lessons in all dental technology disciplines
  • Evaluate students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided by instructors, and provide feedback
  • Independent supervision of students
  • Demonstrate lab/clinic equipment, when required
  • Support educational technologists in preparation, setup and dismantling lab/clinic exercises when required
  • Assist or perform lab/clinic demonstrations of equipment under the guidance of instructional staff
  • Assist instructional staff when require ensuring the safe and correct use of equipment
  • Provide feedback to instructors regarding lab/clinic exercises

Student Support:

  • Provide tutorial/remedial
  • Assist students in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperation with other staff members
  • Ensure students are working in a safe condition

Skills & Abilities:


  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Initiative and ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of computers and use of Microsoft suite of programs
  • Ability to lift 2045lbs unassisted
  • Ability to stand and walk for 7.25 hours
  • Ability to physically perform standard dental and/or intraoral work
  • Ability to work flexible hours and assignments
  • A solid working knowledge in clinical setting, safety standards, and equipment operations and maintenance in the dental field.

Qualifications:


  • Dental Technology certificate, diploma or degree and current member of the College of Dental Technologists of Alberta
  • 5 years related experience preferred
  • Class 5 drivers license, if required
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience

Remuneration:
$2, $ 3,012.40 biweekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Instructional Assistant II).

  • This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement._
