Job purpose


The purpose of this role is to guide and support the BBBS engagement and enterprise strategies with the core objectives to enhance the brand, increase engagement, enhance innovation and enterprise, and help drive the financial resiliency of our organization.

An important member of the BBBS Leadership Team, this dynamic leader will enable our agency to achieve its branding, marketing and communications, and volunteer recruitment goals, while helping innovate our resource mobilization strategies in new and exciting ways.


The Manager, Engagement and Enterprisewill seek ways to foster agency innovation, while improving the BBBS external engagement and volunteer experience.

Overseeing the brand and marketing functions, this professional will also launch and oversee an exciting social enterprise strategy developing at Big Brothers Big Sisters.

They will drive community engagement of audiences including volunteers, partners, families the agency serves, donors, staff and external partners, deepening their affinity for and connection to the BBBS mission.

A gifted communicator, they will contribute to government relations and stakeholder management activities, and drive recruitment of both volunteers and families.


This position reports to the President and CEO, and will liaise with all departments including, Fund Development, Service Delivery, Finance and HR.


Duties and responsibilities

Communications, Marketing and Brand

  • Lead the planning and further development of a comprehensive brand strategy, including volunteer recruitment campaigns, social media and content calendar, website and other forms of external communications for various audiences
  • Create a valuesenhancing and effective content and storytelling strategy, including refining key messages and deploying effective marketing and volunteer recruitment tactics across all defined audiences

Partnerships and Strategic Engagement

  • Develop an annual strategic engagement and outreach plan that addresses priorities of the Strategic Direction
- _Develop and maintains strategic relationships in the community in coordination with the CEO and Leadership Team_
- _Create strategies around new and existing partnerships with businesses, community groups and schools to increase the number of volunteers in our pipeline_
- _Identify and form partnerships with corporations, other agencies, government partners and community groups to enhance and increase the profile of the agency in tight collaboration with the Fund Development team_
- _Provide guidance and direction related to the recruitment and recognition of volunteers, highlighting their diverse contributions as ambassadors/promoters/alumni/supporters of the agency_
- _Work with Service Delivery and Fund Development to plan and implement events that honour and build current and new relationships for the agency_

  • Function as Executive Sponsor for various agencywide priorities that include our agency's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy and other new opportunities for growth and evolution, in alignment with Boost: BBBS Calgary's 10Year Strategic Direction

Enterprise and Innovation

  • Drive a burgeoning Social Enterprise Strategy at BBBS, including product development and event strategy
  • Grow our strategy for individuals and businesses who wish to support the agency in ways that are not directly service delivery or fundraisingrelated, eg. BIG Ambassadors, BIG Deal Card Program
  • Deliver projects in the context of a "test and learn" environment
  • Lead and support incubation projects with strategic stakeholders with the goals of increasing revenue, finding efficiencies, and seeking disruptive solutions to challenges and/or catalyzing strategic opportunities

Leadership

  • Provide advice and counsel to colleagues and Board as a member of the Leadership Team of BBBS
  • Represent our local agency on BBBS Canada network committees and working groups, as required
  • Create, monitor and report on core KPIs and strategic measurements as set out by the Strategic Direction and Annual Work Plans
  • Manage and maximize an annual team budget

Qualifications

  • Degree in social work, education, business, marketing, communications, entrepreneurship or related disciplines. Relevant work, volunteer and lived experience will also be taken into consideration
  • 10+ years experience in community engagement, community development, social innovation and codesign, product development, entrepreneurship and project management
  • Experience with Innovation and Design Thinking
  • Strong leadership skills with experience leading a highfunctioning and missionfocused team
  • Excellent communication skills both interpersonal and written and strong presentation skills

Working conditions

  • Fulltime position required to work 37.5 hours per week, hybrid work environment
  • This position is a management role and is exempt from overtime or lieu time
  • This position requires flexibility to occa
