The Janitor maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and/or grounds in compliance with applicable standards.

This is a part-time position at 5 hours per week.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collecting, and disposing of garbage, vacuums carpets and pews as assigned.

Checks, cleans, moves, arranges, and dusts furniture as required.
Checks doors and windows to ensure building security.
Reports safety concerns and repair issues.
Restocks washrooms, shower supplies as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Have completed High School

More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience preferred but not necessary, including previous cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures.

Obtain a Criminal Police Check and clearance through The Salvation Army Internal Abuse Registry and be willing to sign the Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt & Acknowledgement Form


PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Have the ability to work within a Christian faith-based setting and uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army
Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, and shoveling snow.
Ability to use cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning compounds.
Moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized/general cleaning
Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures.
Background in handling, mixing and safely using cleaning chemicals.
A strong sense of initiative and responsibility in working alone.
Problem solving and decision-making skills.

General knowledge of workplace safety practices, policies, and procedures (e.g., equipment safety, hazard communication, personal protective equipment use) to ensure performance of safe work practices.
