POSITION TITLE:
Physiotherapist Aide





REPORTING TO:
The Director of Resident Services

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Physiotherapy Aide is a member of the Resident Services team and reports to the Director of Resident Services.

The Physiotherapy Aide is under the direction of the Physiotherapist and assists with resident care and responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the treatment area and equipment.

As a significant contributor to the Glebe Centre, the PTA will take pride in the thoroughness of the work and the strong relationships developed with Residents and interdisciplinary teams.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Knowledgeable in exercise technique and musculoskeletal anatomy
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills while interacting with residents or their families
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in long term care, geriatrics and working with individuals with dementia and/or disabilities
  • Welldeveloped English language skills, comprehension, oral and written

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Ability to collaboratively assist in planning and implement programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain high interpersonal approaches and strategies to inspire, stimulate, and encourage ongoing residents and families
  • Welldeveloped computer skills
  • Demonstrates a commitment to courteous, sincere, and sensitive customer service. Presents a positive and caring attitude in all interactions. Shows patience, tolerant, accepts diversity, and presents a positive image of themselves in all professional interactions.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills with all whom they interact. All communications, verbal and written, should demonstrate a commitment to internal and external customer service and excellence. Effectively sends, receives, and responds to requests while maintaining a high level of confidentiality. A high degree of initiation and ability to work well with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment

FUNCTIONS:


  • Assisting Physiotherapist with Resident care; including the use of ultrasound equipment, exercise programs etc.
  • Treatment area cleanliness, including laundry and treatment area organization
  • Maintenance and cleaning/sterilization of medical equipment
  • Collecting outcome measure data
  • Inventory of clinical supplies
  • Participate in ongoing internal and/or external education activities. Demonstrate risk management skills related to safety of residents, families, volunteers and coworkers
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, respond to requests, building rapport and participating in team meetings and problemsolving methods.
  • Participate in professional and inhouse inservices including Surge learning mandatory training.
  • Uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in The Glebe Centre's ethical and Professional Codes of Conduct.
  • Other job related duties as required

Prevention of Resident and Client Abuse is primary and there exists an obligation to report abuse or potential abuse. Resident and Client comfort and safety is a primary focus of the Glebe Centre.

Employees are expected to meet their obligations as far as scheduled hours and shifts are concerned. Regular attendance and being on time ensures resident and client safety and team functioning.
