How will you contribute to the team?
This position is divided into two (2) components, depending on the seasons. During the summer months, responsible for leading maintenance crew(s) performing highway maintenance.

During the winter months, patrolling the highway and provides first-hand knowledge of road operations and weather conditions, thereby determining which winter maintenance activities should be undertaken.


Summer months:


  • Lead maintenance crew in performing highway maintenance tasks to maintain and repair the highway assets according to standards and contractual requirements.
  • Assist the crew to perform general manual labour when required.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of highway maintenance equipments and vehicles.
  • Monitor sub contractor operation and performance.
  • Complete daily reports.
  • Perform planned and unplanned emergency traffic control signing.
  • Assist in highway accident response and site cleanup.
  • Assist with the annual asset inspections.
  • Assist in routine fleet vehicle & equipment maintenance and repairs and good housekeeping cleanup practices in the maintenance yard.
  • Oncall to work outside the normal work hours to address emergency situations and priorities.
  • Perform Road Patrol duties and other related duties as required.

Winter Months:


  • Conduct routine winter highway patrol to ensure road surface conditions are in compliance with contractual requirements on a 24/7 shift schedule.
  • Initiate and callout winter maintenance operations in response to both observed and anticipated road surface and weather conditions, using RWIS and other coordinated weather and road forecasting sources.
  • Determine appropriate snow and ice control strategy based on observations and weather forecast.
  • Complete daily reports.
  • Assist in training new Plow Operators as needed.
  • Maintain all snow fighting equipment to ensure properly inspected and operated within the safety standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate placement of traffic control devices to ensure the safety of Facility users in the event of accidents and spillage.
  • Collect and complete Highway Accident Reports and related records for recoverable and nonrecoverable highway incident damage.
  • If qualified, and on short period of time, may be asked to fulfill Plow Operator duties.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

_ Qualifications:
_


  • Minimum High School Diploma.
  • Minimum 2 years' previous jobrelated experience preferred.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Valid commercial vehicle endorsement (Truck Operator) driver's license preferred.
  • Snow Plow Operator experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of highway operations and working experience with various types of vehicles and equipment used in road maintenance activities.
  • Some experience in training in front of a group is preferred.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Computer skills (working knowledge on Microsoft Office and ability to access webbased systems).
  • Sound judgment and decisionmaking.
  • Excellent communication skills in English with an understanding of field operational record keeping.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a high degree of comfort interacting with stakeholders, and ability to work both independently and as a work unit team.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, tact and diplomacy.
  • Must be capable of lifting heavy objects on occasion.
  • Flexible to work rotating shifts, often in extreme weather and isolated conditions.
  • Demonstrate good working knowledge of workplace health and safety.
