Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning and execution of communications activities at ITK.
The Coordinator may be assigned tasks related to specific files or other core work in order to support the communications needs of the organization including:
maintaining distribution lists and lists of key contacts; developing and scheduling social media posts; supporting event planning; and supporting publication developing including translation coordination and photo research; artist engagement and coordination of Inuit art holdings; conceptualizing, ordering and tracking promotional items; and other duties as required.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT
- Supporting the communications team to deliver on corporate communications needs.
- Supporting the communications team to deliver on the vision of ITK and the direction of the Board
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
- Assisting with the development of communications products, including identifying contributors, developing infographics, photographs and captions/credits, translation coordination and distribution
- Developing social media posts and web content
- Supporting meetings and event
- Coordinating calendars and contacts
- Ordering and tracking promotional materials and other communications tools and products
EXTERNAL CONTACTS
- Inuit regions
- Various levels of Government
- Advertisers
- Designers
- Translators
- Photographers and contractors
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of Inuit Regions, history, and political structure
- Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Writing and content creation
- Basic photography
EXPERIENCE
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills (primarily in English; Inuktitut and/or French an asset.
- 2 years or more working with an Inuit or Indigenous organization
- 2 years or more working in a political or advocacy organization
EDUCATION
- Degree in Political Science, Communications, Journalism, Indigenous Studies, Public Affairs or similar, or:
- Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance is evident.
