Construction Manager
TENG Inc. is a fast growing, medium-size engineering consulting company providing engineering and project management services to multiple industry sectors. _
We have a requirement for Construction Manager. This full-time position will be based in the Greater Toronto area. In this role, you will report into the VP of Construction based out of our HQ's in Mississauga, ON._


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • A safety leader who will uphold workplace HSSE work practices and procedures, ensuring compliance with all Federal, Provincial and Terminal Safety directives.
  • Able to provide initial safety incident response and supporting the followup HSSE investigation.
  • Leading a multifacetted contractor trade team through all phases of construction from mobilization start to mechanical completion, and the return of the asset to Terminal Operations.
  • Working with the project manager to develop the construction level 4 schedule.
  • Develop the three week lookahead for work front planning with trade supervisors.
  • Proactively manage all Terminal interfaces including coordination with Operations, Maintenance and Terminal Stakeholders
  • Foster a shared vision of success between different Contractors, other Projects onsite, and other departments within Suncor.
  • Coordinate and direct trade supervision.
  • Manage work progress on a daily basis.
  • Lead daily construction briefings with Terminal operations and trade supervisors.
  • Submit weekly and monthly progress reports to the project manager and client stakeholders.
  • Advise the project manager of construction deficiencies together with the path forward.
  • Working with the project manager to support prestartup activities including site walkdowns, mechanical completion, and presafety start up requirements and project closeout activities.
  • Review and approve contractor's daily Labour, Equipment and Material (LEMS) reports.
  • Provide inputs to project invoice activities for final approval by the project manager.
  • Foster a shared vision of success between different Contractors, other Projects onsite, and other departments within Suncor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:


  • Direct report to Client Manager of Construction.
  • Indirect report to TENG VP Projects and Construction.
  • Project guidance from the project manager.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High school diploma, technical diploma in a related field or equivalent.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Minimum of 10 years of proven construction leadership experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of Engineering processes and deliverables, and construction work packages.
  • PC Literate, competent with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project
  • Strong leadership and management, including organizational and planning skills. Ability to predict potential risks before they arise and implement plans to manage.
  • Proven leadership qualities for delegation, negotiation, influencing and comfortable presenting to large groups.
  • Engaged team player who works well within a group to reach a shared goal.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:


  • Engineering or Construction Diploma.
  • Experience of working in a brownfield construction environment in either Oil & Gas refining or Distribution Terminals.
  • Experience in managing a multi trade workforce in an operating plant environment.
  • Experience with safe work permitting procedures.
  • A recognized selfstarter, confident in both working individually, and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in highstress and challenging environments.
  • Strong coaching or mentoring skills are an asset.
  • Experience with API 650, 653, and tank repairs as well as industrial quality management systems

TRAVEL:

Normal commute to work site including any offsite travel as per project requirements.


WORK PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • All work is performed in an operating Distribution Terminal environment.
  • Required to walk, stand, squat, kneel, climb stairs for up to 10 hours per day, 5 days per week
  • Depending on project needs, over 50% of the day will be in an outside environment.
  • Comfortable working inside operating energy facilities.
