Friends of Ruby (FoR) is dedicated to the journey and well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, aged 16-29 through mental health services, social services, and housing. FoR offers Youth Mental Health services, a Youth Drop-In Centre, and a Transitional Home. The Centre provides access to barrier-free counselling and therapeutic groups, case management and a drop-in space with hot meals, community, and comprehensive programming. The Home provides transitional and emergency housing, as well as mental health and life-skills to support youth moving towards independent living.

Position Summary


The Friends of Ruby Program Manager reports to the Director Mental Health & Youth Services and is responsible for working collaboratively with youth, staff, management and partners to create, evaluate and support the delivery of high-quality programming across all functions of the agency including at our transitional home and our drop in space.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Management (design, delivery, budget administration) of all youth programs within the Friends of Ruby scope.

Specific programs include but are not limited to:
Education and Employment, Housing Programming, etc.

  • Facilitate, develop, and train staff in the delivery of highquality, engaging programing. Including content, resources, and tools for facilitation.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, internal and external including youth, speakers, chaperones, community members, corporate sponsors, and public partners.
  • Collaborate with the other managers to implement evaluation components into all programming.
  • Complete measurement and evaluation of youth programs and report on the impact.
  • Support other departments (e.g., Marketing and Communications) to report on youth programs, and advise on opportunities to engage youth members, corporate partners, or funders in programming, where appropriate.
  • Report to various Directors on budgets associated with related programs and deliverables.
  • Carry out other duties as determined from time to time by the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Programs.
  • Represent Friends of Ruby in a positive light to internal and external opportunities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Education or a combination of education and experience in these fields is preferred.
  • 35 years' experience and a strong background in 2SLGBTQIA+ educational and/or experiential learning.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with youth engagement, community service, volunteerism, experiential education, and positive youth development approaches to programming.
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience developing and delivering programming, training, and events for youth, front line and administrative/management staff.
  • Confidence in creating, supporting, and facilitating programming and events.
  • Proven organizational, planning, time management, and goalsetting skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects with multiple priorities on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated leadership in working as a leader and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Professional, objective, and ethical approach.
  • Knowledge and understanding of evaluation and outcomes measurement.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet competing deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of digital/virtual communications technology, and ability to create engaging, interactive programming.
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to ever‐changing needs and work efficiently with a high degree of personal initiative.

Additional Requirements

  • Satisfactory clearance under the Police Background Check.
  • Must be qualified to legally work in Canada.
  • Willing to work onsite at our Friends of Ruby office located in downtown Toronto.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the organization, working evenings on occasions.
  • Ability to travel
