Paving Superintendent for Civil Construction city projects in and around the Greater Edmonton Area.

Responsibilities:


  • Manage, organize, and schedule a division of foreman/women, equipment operators, and labourers performing paving support for subdivisions, commercial surface work, road building, and various projects
  • Manage day to day site activities
  • Ensure labour, equipment, materials and subcontractors are on site when necessary
  • Collaborate and correspond with customers, engineers, and project managers in a positive and professional manner
  • Ensure that the construction crews or subcontractors perform work in accordance to contract drawings, specifications, Health and Safety Plans, and all applicable legislation
  • Manage and keep daily quantities
  • Provide input to estimating team during bidding process
  • Develop paving schedules, including material types and quantities
  • Ensure materials, equipment, and labour are utilized efficiently and effectively
  • Communicate with Foreman/Forewomen to ensure that deliveries to site are complete and in accordance with materials order
  • Ensure all employees are working in accordance with company and other governing safe work policies and procedures
  • Participate in project meetings and facilitate regularly scheduled meetings related to projects
  • Coordinate with Human Resources on a variety of employee related topics/issues (i.e., recruitment, terminations, training, etc.), including assisting in the interviewing and hiring process of paving employees
  • Ensure that all equipment that is not functioning properly is properly reported
  • Provide training, leadership, and mentorship to employees
  • Interface with the client and other contractors
  • Ensure the safety of the division, equipment, and environment, leading by example
  • Ensure paving crews are conducting all daily safety reports (i.e., safety meetings, equipment inspections, etc.)
  • Demonstrate conflict resolution in difficult situations and resolve issues amongst teammates, coworkers, clients, etc.
  • Ensure that work is completed according to schedule
  • Manage timesheets for all paving team members

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Senior paving leadership role (Superintendent and/or Foreman/woman); OR a minimum of 7+ years' experience leading construction crews
  • Must have relevant experience in Paving operations and have indepth knowledge of best paving practices
  • Experience with operation of Paver and Screed; _preferred_
  • Must possess strong leadership/mentorship and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to provide and receive constructive and actionable feedback
  • Must be a team player and have the ability to work cohesively in a team environment
  • Possess a strong understanding of blueprints and equipment knowledge
  • Be safety orientated, selfmotivated, and work well with others
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle difficult issues in a positive and professional manner
  • Possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Possess strong organizational skills
  • Must have a good knowledge of the City and surrounding areas
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License with a clean driver's abstract
  • Above average computer skills required
  • Must have the ability to make educated decisions in a timely manner, sometimes under deadlines and pressure
  • Must be willing/able to work long hours (overtime during busy seasons) in varying weather conditions
