The Opportunity


The full-time Men and Boys Program Leader in the GBVP project is focused on engaging men and boys in GBV awareness and prevention.

They will develop dynamic and innovative programs to engage newcomer men and boys in GBV awareness and prevention using feminist, trauma informed and anti-oppressive approaches.

They focus on creating collaborations across YMCA Immigrant Services (YIS) programs for place-based programming to bring GBV awareness to more clients, programs, and demographics.

They will also be responsible for ensuring regular and consistent workshops take place.

This position will also focus on supporting the engagement of a Men's Action Project leadership group who will be champions in GBV awareness and prevention through taking action in their own communities.

This position will also support the National GBV project as needed particularly in relation to the priority of engaging men and boys.


Through the GBVP project and through our youth focused programming in YMCA School Settlement and Youth Outreach programs, a gap has been identified in programming for men and boys around building a healthy lifestyle, engaging in positive relationships, reducing conflict and stress, and exploring constructs of masculinity.

This project will develop programming and lead activities for newcomer boys and men to engage in gender-based violence prevention and awareness by focusing on healthy relationships, communication, and skill building.


Responsibilities

  • Program Research and Design: Create a curriculum, workshops and programming for newcomer men and boys around GBVP based on our resources and best practices
  • Facilitate and lead newcomer men and boys programming for GBVP project from a feminist perspective
  • Program Delivery: Lead a Men's Action Project (MAP) group for young newcomer men to build a cohort of champions in the area of positive communications and healthy relationships. Lead men and boys' groups to engage in topics surrounding GBV
  • Coordinate and organize logistics of meetings, project information and other materials
  • Source current resources and information about events, networks, campaigns, and issues related to genderbased violence prevention
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with Project Coordinator through regular updates and meetings
  • Complete timely reports and administrative tasks to support the programming
  • Collaborate across programs to lead placebased programming
  • Be knowledgeable and meet program targets, outcomes, and funding guidelines
  • Generate and share activity ideas that correspond to proposed activities and support achievement of program outcomes
  • Get input from clients and community members
  • Source current resources and information that can benefit the program and clients about events, networks, campaigns, and issues related to genderbased violence prevention
  • Be knowledgeable about community resources, programs, and services
  • Insert information into the Immigrant Service calendar regularly and work collaboratively with the team.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong youth work and program delivery experience
  • Facilitation and program design and delivery
  • Lived experience as a newcomer or experience with working with newcomers
  • Knowledge and experience on Gender-Based Violence Prevention initiatives and best practices
  • Robust understanding, and sensitivity to issues affecting immigrant and refugee communities
  • Strong crosscultural verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to discuss difficult social issues and generate positive responses with supervisor
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate variations outside of regular business hours, as needed
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Office Skills (i.e., Excel, Word, Publisher, Dropbox, etc.) and experience in developing multimedia resources, publication, and materials
  • Additional languages considered an asset (Arabic)
