Position Purpose:


The overall duty of this position is to ensure, with the use of examination and verification processes, that the end product meets the requirements of client specifications and public safety acts and regulations.

The Quality Manager develops inspection techniques and procedures, conducts audits and builds strong client relationships. The Quality Manager also provides RSO operational direction for Eastern Canada.

Working as a cohesive unit with the RSO and Quality teams, the Quality Manager oversees all Nuclear Energy and Quality activities to ensure full compliance with the applicable Applus provisions and government regulatory requirements.

Due to the nature of this position, there will be on-call and travel requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and approval of inspection techniques and procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining Applus ISO 9001, CSA W178.1 and marine quality programs.
  • Perform responsible NDT Level 3 duties.
  • Perform radiographic reviews and audits and act as SME for conventional and advanced radiographic techniques.
  • Assist in the development of training programs.
  • Perform regular field quality audits, report audits, internal audits, monitor and advise on the performance of the Quality Management System.
  • Facilitate external certification, jurisdictional and client audits.
  • Ensure documentation is maintained/retained as per ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Ensure NDE procedures, Quality manual and associated procedures are registered with the Regulatory Jurisdictional authority.
  • Manage SNT-TC1A certification program.
  • Establish, implement, follow up and maintenance of processes needed for the Quality Management System.
  • Define and maintain document control and collaborate with other corporate departments to align programs and processes.
  • Provide support to dispositions and corrective actions of nonconformance reporting and reports, ensuring timely and proper closure of reports.
  • Promote customer requirements throughout the region.
  • Ensure standardized procedures, policies and effective processes are developed, adopted and complied within the region.
  • In conjunction with Business Development identify opportunities, develop client relationships and assist in the procurement of contracts.
  • Work with Regional Managers and other Regional Quality personnel to maximize crossfunctional effectiveness.
  • Conduct / supervise NEW training and ensure associated mandatory training is current.
  • Oversee maintenance/retention of records.
  • Act as a main contact for radiation safety related questions, data requests or concerns from employees, managers, clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Actively participates in the investigation of radiation safety incidents to ensure all corrective actions completed.
  • Manage and implement emergency response protocols.
  • Manage all aspects of the radiation safety training and orientation program, supporting the ALARA concept and techniques.
  • Oversee maintenance and inspection of exposure devices and associated equipment.
  • Serve as liaison officer with regulators and management on license matters.
  • Uphold and promote organizational values.
  • Provide support to the other regions by sharing best practices.
  • Provide monthly flash reports on activities, followup and forecasts.
  • Recognize and develop individual and team potential and mentor the Company's future leaders.
  • In conjunction with Human Resources develop and keep track of personal development plans for all team members.
  • Accountable for communication of new policies/procedures and ensuring their adherence.
  • Actively promote and proactively model the company's focus on safety when interacting with all current and future employees and clients.
  • Organizes and documents the correct storing and adjusts all quality control equipment and material.
  • Assists the HSQE Director.
  • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Field work may be required, as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.
