    in the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division.

    Position : Teacher Consultant –Curriculum, Assessment and Indigenous Education

    Location : Educational Service Center - Edson, AB

    Start Date : August 26, 2024

    Background

    Guided by the Division's vision, mission, beliefs, values, and goals, the Teacher Consultant will fulfill requirements of Alberta Education as prescribed in the Education Act, and the Teacher Quality Standard. The Teacher Consultant works under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services.

    Responsibilities:

    The Teacher Consultant will have specific responsibilities for the following:

    • Works collaboratively to offer and deliver support to programs and school staff.
    • Collaborating with Indigenous Lead Teachers to identify practical strategies and materials for the full integration of Indigenous perspectives into each classroom.
    • Promoting further understanding of Treaties and Agreements negotiated with First Nations and the Métis in Canada.
    • Broadening current practice to include activities and experiences that are consistent with Indigenous ways of learning and knowing.
    • Develops plans for the implementation of new and revised curriculum, resources, and/or other programs.
    • Liaises with schools regarding professional learning and/or professional development activities associated with identified areas of responsibility.
    • Provides support to school and the Division to address educational initiatives that serve to enhance student learning and achievement.
    • Work with provincial partners to provide programming supports aligned with curriculum outcomes.
    • Oversee students enrolled within home education.
    • Organize, facilitate and support engagement initiatives such as providing support to the Superintendent Youth Council.
    • Ensures that supports for the planning and reporting process are established across the Division to facilitate improved teaching and learning in each school.
    • Monitors data collection and uses this information collaboratively in decision making.
    • Work actively and collaboratively as a team member to provide support to schools.
    • Achieve the outcomes established for Curriculum and Assessment and the Division.
    • Actively demonstrate and subscribe to the practice of educational leadership.
    • Demonstrates fiscally responsible decision-making within the scope of their responsibility.
    • Works collaboratively with the Secretary-Treasurer in setting and monitoring budgets within area of responsibility.
    • In collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services and the Superintendent or Designate, plans, develops and monitors stakeholder contracts.
    • Implement board policies, administrative, and school procedures.
    • Establishes and maintains positive, professional working relations with the Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services and the Superintendent of Schools.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designate.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Education and Valid Teaching Certificate;
    • Leadership Quality Standards Certification or progressing towards certification is required;
    • Completion or enrolled within the Aspiring Leadership Program;
    • Proven performance in Management and Instructional Leadership;
    • Ability to lead and facilitate large group professional development activities;
    • Previous experience as a Learning Support Teacher;
    • Proficient in French as a second language is preferred;
    • Significant experience with testing protocols including but not limited to: HLATs, PATs, SLA, EYE and C3;
    • Significant experience in curriculum and assessment;
    • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills;
    • Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check;
    • Child Intervention Check.

    The Division

    Grande Yellowhead School Division (GYPSD) stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south to Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 17 schools, 5 Learning Connection Centres, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff. Seven elected Trustees govern the Division.
