PRIMARY OBJECTIVE


Under the supervision of the WYFC literacy coordinator, this position is responsible to develop, oversee and support activities for youth currently involved in the LITGROUPS ministry.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications (10%)


  • Initiate communication with present and potential volunteers, parents of participating youth, and program support network.
  • Represent WYFC positively to the community, including a Christian perspective.
  • Implement Social Media strategy regularly, including that which is associated with each community event.
  • Collect stories, photos and videos from the LITGROUPS program.
  • Provide the literacy coordinator with regular reports, including records of activities and events.
  • Organize and archive plans and materials developed for LITGROUPS team use and enrichment.
Literacy (70%)


  • Plan and execute a literacy-based program for youth ages 8-12, with Christian values informing and embedding in program choices and relationships.
  • Mobilize other staff and volunteers to accomplish program goals; encouraging team members in Christian faith.
  • Care for and maintain the facilities, property and equipment necessary for programming.
  • Develop, manage and organize program registration processes and information confidentially.
Meetings (7%)


  • Meet regularly with supervisor.
  • Attend WYFC and ministry team meetings, once a month.
Partner Development (5%)


  • Personal and ministry area partnership development - which includes securing and maintaining a base of financial & prayer partners.
  • Gathering financial and prayer support from the Christian community
Spiritual and Personal Development (10%)


  • Maintain practices that facilitate being a faithful and contributing member of a local church.
  • Pray for and with the WYFC Team.
  • Spend time in spiritual reflection and development.
  • Participate in training and development courses, conferences and/or workshops pertinent to this role as approved by supervisor.
Administration (3%)


  • Complete required reports.
  • Adhere to the WYFC Policy Manual.
  • Abide by Health and Safety Requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Adherence, without reservation to the Statement of Faith of Community Covenant Youth for Christ
  • A commitment to discipleship of youth
  • Work well with little supervision
  • Demonstrate an ability to work well under pressure
  • A "people person" who works well with in a team environment
  • Possesses leadership qualities
  • Possesses the ability to relate to middleyears youth of varying cultures with literacy challenges.
  • Ability and willingness to accept and implement the ministry methods and concepts adapted by WYFC.
  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (A criminal record would not necessarily disqualify an applicant for this position, depending on what a conviction was for, but given the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, it could.)
  • Lesson & Program planning (including EAL specific) skills
  • Effective interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Crisis intervention skills
  • CPR and First Aid is considered an asset
