Community Resource Specialist
  • Database Curator
  • 211 Manitoba is a free, confidential, 24/7 service that connects individuals to communitybased government, health, and social services in the province of Manitoba by phone or website. The initiative is led by United Way Winnipeg 211 Manitoba's goal is to strengthen communities by effectively connecting people with appropriate information and services. Working closely with the 211 Manitoba Database Manager, the Community Resource Specialist is responsible for supporting the maintenance and updating of all data stored on the 211 Manitoba ICarol database.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the development and occasional revision of internal 211 Manitoba database standards or guidelines and ensures that data is managed accordingly.
  • Help to maintain the 211 MB resource database by:
  • Identifying resources that require updating.
  • Connecting with the appropriate contact person for each resource
  • Requesting relevant information electronically or by telephone
  • Abstracting relevant information from print and electronic sources, and verifying accuracy and currency of the information with data sources and community contacts
  • Creating and updating resource records in the database, through data entry, according to current Inform USA standards.
  • Ensuring resource records are thoroughly and consistently indexed.
  • Aligning taxonomy with National Standards
  • Making new and updated resource records available to 211 Manitoba Service Navigators and partner Navigators across Canada.
  • Meet critical targets in the verification of records in the 211 Manitoba database.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Represents 211 Manitoba in outreach, promotional opportunities and special events as assigned.
  • Respond to requests for marketing materials; track and distribute accordingly.
  • Work towards acquiring and maintaining Community Resource Specialist, Inform USA Certification, including identifying available seminars and training opportunities both online and locally. Certification would be expected to certify as soon as eligible.
  • Contributes to departmental and organizational planning.
  • Develops annual, personal goals related to the work of 211 Manitoba and United Way Winnipeg and is accountable for the achievement of these annual goals.
  • Other admin duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 25 years of experience in the areas of Manitoba's notforprofit community and service providers
  • Postsecondary degree in Humanities or Social Sciences or Information Management
  • Inform USA Community Resource Specialist Certification an asset or a commitment to attain certification as soon as eligible.
  • An equivalent combination of education and, training with minimum 2 years of experience may be considered.

Skills

  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to research, summarize and organize information with accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and allocate time to meet deadlines.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Proficient in the most recent version of Microsoft Office
  • Comfortable working with online databases, including knowledge of database structure, especially taxonomy or indexing.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and multitask.
  • Strong commitment to superior service, organizational growth, and community profile.
