The Projects & Standards Manager reports directly to the Sr.

Manager, Capital Portfolio & Major Projects and is responsible for ensuring the Potash Capital Program achieves its expected business value.


This role will require providing leadership and coaching with respect to project management expertise to resources within other departments, plant sites, and corporate office.

This main function will provide guidance, professional knowledge, and expertise to Portfolio Managers at our Potash Sites, Project Controllers, and Project Managers.

The role will also include the review of Stage Gates in alignment with Nutrien's Stage-Gate Project Management Process.

These reviews will support efficient and effective project management by supporting the appropriate level of Front-End Loading (engineering), the estimate class development, and coordinating involvement of technical experts and senior management tomaximize value.

Other important aspects of the position involve improvement of Nutrien's project management tool set, completing gap assessments for skills and knowledge, and providing training for project managers.

This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada and is not available for remote work.


What you will do:


  • Provide the leadership, direction, governance, and control necessary to support the sustainable, efficient implementation of all capital projects within the potash portfolio
  • Support standardization and continuous improvement of Nutrien's Capital Processes across all Potash sites and within the Potash Engineering, Technology, and Capital (ETC) department
  • Create capital project reports and presentations for review by Senior Leadership, Nutrient President(s), and the Potash Leadership Team
  • Provide guidance, professional knowledge, and expertise to Site Portfolio Managers (Chief Maintenance Engineers) and Project Controllers on a regular basis in six key areas: Leadership, Stage-Gated Project Management, Training & Skills Development, Project Analytics, Risk Management, and Cost Savings
  • Be responsible for the development, delivery and support of project manangement mentorship and training across the Potash Business Unit
  • Support the creation of strategic objectives Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) forefficient and effective use of capital project management
  • Accept responsibility to resolve issues and remove obstacles that are escalated by the Site Portfolio Managers, Project Controllers, and Project Managers
  • Provide input and guidance at the onset of a project regarding identification of potential stakeholders and required technical reviews
  • Engage, motivate, and inspire the Site Portfolio Managers, Project Controllers, and Project Managers to embrace change and support the continuous improvement of the Corporation's capital strategies and aligned project management procedures to assure project success
  • Assist with the management of Potash corporate capital portfolios as required

What you will bring:


  • Demonstrated track record of 7 years of related technical and/or managerial experience in mining, mineral processing, or similar industrial companies required
  • One of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university required
  • P.Eng Designation considered an asset
  • Diploma in Engineering Technology, or equivalent, from a recognized institution required
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Designation considered an asset
  • Must be highly motivated, and requires the ability to lead/coach people to maintain the highest levels of expertise and performance
  • Ability to work successfully in an environment with mínimal supervision and a high degree of interaction between management, teams,and people
