DURATION:
Minimum 6 weeks Maximum 8 weeks


WAGE:
$15.50/hour (minimum 30 hours up to 37.5 hours/week)


This position is created specifically for applicants to the 2023 Canada Summer Jobs program, and all applicants must meet eligibility guidelines as specified by Service Canada in order to be considered for the above position.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Executive Assistant of the
CEO, the Communication Assistant is responsible for providing assistance to all areas within the department including, but not limited to the following:

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Assists Executive Assistant of the
    CEO with all administrative needs, including preparation of reports, documents and spreadsheets; arrange and schedule meetings, take and transcribe minutes and followup on action items.
  • Maintain appropriate recordkeeping systems.
  • Support activities related to published communications.
  • Writing website content related to stories of residents and current events.
  • Filing and/or distribution of records, correspondence, etc.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives as required.
  • Assists with documentation and communication in support of the Board of Directors.
  • Immediately inform supervisor of any problems that may prevent the completion of these responsibilities.
  • Fully communicate relevant positionrelated information generated to residents, families, clients, and managers as required, resolving problems and reducing potential misunderstandings.
  • Actively seek out necessary information to accomplish or improve job responsibilities / performance standards.
  • Recommend appropriate policies and procedures for consideration and implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Postsecondary education in progress
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suites
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work together with all staff members; ability to work under pressure in a fastpaced environment
  • Detail orientated and time management skills are essential; confidentiality and tact are imperative
  • Ability to communicate professionally in person and by phone
  • Strong customer service skills required

Program Eligibility_**
What youth participants are eligible?

To be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age
at the beginning of the employment period*;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act _for the duration of the employment**; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

  • The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.


Duration and hours of work
Jobs must be full-time (30 to a maximum of 40 hours per week). If a youth is provided less than 30 hours of work for any week, their wages may be deemed ineligible for reimbursement unless consent has been granted from Service Canada for exceptional circumstances (e.g. to accommodate persons with disabilities).
